Job description

Welch Comer Engineers is seeking an Engineering/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician to join our team. This position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional interested in combining engineering and GIS to support public infrastructure projects.

Working alongside engineers, surveyors, and project managers, you will assist with engineering design, technical documentation, mapping, spatial analysis, and data management. In this role, you will support projects from planning through design by applying both engineering and GIS principles to develop practical solutions for our clients. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience, build technical expertise, and grow within a collaborative consulting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers and project managers with the preparation of plans, specifications, reports, technical documents an permit applications
  • Perform data entry, quality control, and document management activities
  • Prepare project estimates, quantities, and supporting calculations under the guidance of senior staff
  • Compile and analyze project data for engineering studies and reports
  • Review plans and documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established standards
  • Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, and project managers to support project deliverables
  • Create, edit, and maintain GIS databases and geospatial datasets
  • Develop maps, exhibits, and visualizations for engineering, planning, and environmental projects
  • Collect, organize, and validate spatial and attribute data from multiple sources
  • Perform quality control reviews to ensure data accuracy and consistency
  • Assist with maintaining GIS standards, workflows, and documentation
  • Collaborate with existing and new clients to refine GIS services and market new services
  • Learn and apply GIS best practices and emerging technologies

Requirements

Do you have experience in Productivity software?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, If you like solving real problems, learning fast, and working with people who genuinely care about the work and each other, you might be a great fit here., Required

  • Associate' s or Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro
  • Basic understanding of geospatial concepts, coordinate systems, and data management

Preferred

  • Experience with ArcGIS Online
  • Coursework or internship experience related to GIS, mapping, surveying, planning, or civil engineering
