Job description

The Aranda Group seeks an experienced software engineer or development firm with proven expertise in legacy database modernization and dBASE Plus migration projects. The Firm currently operates a custom-built application developed in dBASE Plus running on a Windows server environment. The application was designed as a bill payment platform capable of managing an unlimited number of accounts.

Core Functionality:

· Bill payment processing

· Check printing

· Financial reporting

· Account management and related accounting workflows

Current Environment:

· Legacy platform: dBASE Plus

· Server environment: Windows Server

· Active users: 8 employees

· Database size: Approximately 50 tables

The Aranda Group seeks to modernize the current application to ensure long-term maintainability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency. The Firm owns 100% of the intellectual property and source code and our intention is to maintain ownership of the system after the software migration. The original developer/owner remains closely involved and has extensive knowledge of the system architecture, workflows, and business logic.

Project Scope, Deliverables, & Requirements

Scope of Work:

The project should include but might not be limited to the following:

  1. Analysis of the existing dBASE Plus application and architecture

  2. Migration of approximately 50 database tables to a modern database platform

  3. Conversion or redevelopment of existing application code into a modern technology stack

  4. Preservation of existing workflows and core business logic

  5. Improvement of usability, performance, and future scalability

The initial preference is an SQL-based backend with a browser-based user interface. However, we are open to alternative architecture recommendations if they better support our long-term business needs.

Project Deliverables:

The selected engineer or firm will provide:

  1. Technical assessment of current environment

  2. Migration strategy and project plan

  3. Database conversion and validation

  4. Application redevelopment and testing

  5. Deployment plan

  6. Documentation and knowledge transfer

  7. Post-launch support during transition

Candidate Requirements:

Ideal candidates will have experience with:

· dBASE migration projects

· Legacy application modernization

· SQL databases (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)

· Web-based application development

· Financial or accounting software systems (Not necessary but helpful)

Please include examples of similar migration projects completed, including technologies used and project outcomes.

Project Timeline and Engagement

The Aranda Group seeks dedicated full-time engagement for this project to provide timely completion of work. Regular progress reporting is required, including weekly onsite meetings or status updates. Estimated project duration is 12-15 months

Because this system manages sensitive financial information, all candidates must provide a copy of their data handling procedure and successfully complete a background check prior to engagement.

About the company

The Aranda Group is a family wealth management firm located in Jenkintown, PA. In addition to a Registered Investment Advisory practice, the Firm also operates a Multiple Family Office to provide personal financial controller services to our clients. The Firm uses a propriety BillPay and Financial Tracking system operating in dBASE.
