Job description
The Director of Technology leads the Information Technology function for Pillar Construction, Inc., a commercial construction subcontractor operating from offices in Alexandria, Norfolk, Orlando, and Houston, with specialties in drywall, exterior systems, modular prefabrication, and a growing BIM/VDC division.
Reporting to executive leadership, the Director of Technology owns the strategy, security, and day-to-day operation of the company's entire technology environment-cloud platforms, networks, endpoints, business applications, data and analytics, and end-user support. The role serves as the senior technical authority and primary administrator across Microsoft 365, Azure, and Intune, directs a small internal team, and partners with operations, finance, and field leadership to align technology investments with business objectives. A current priority is leading the company's cybersecurity and federal-compliance posture, including CMMC readiness, while modernizing data, governance, and collaboration capabilities., Technology Strategy & Leadership

Define and execute the company-wide technology roadmap, aligning infrastructure, security, and application investments with business growth and multi-site operations.

Serve as the senior technical decision-maker; advise executive leadership on technology risk, capability gaps, cost optimization, and opportunities for operational improvement.

Develop and present executive-facing briefings, proposals, and status reporting on major initiatives, budgets, and compliance posture. IT Operations & End-User Support

Direct all IT service delivery and end-user support across four offices and remote/field staff, managing ticket intake, prioritization, and resolution at scale.

Own the endpoint lifecycle-procurement, imaging, deployment, and retirement-for Windows and Apple devices via Microsoft Intune and Autopilot and Apple Business Manager/DEP.

Establish and maintain support standards, documentation, and escalation paths; act as the final escalation point for complex incidents. Cloud Infrastructure & Systems Administration

Serve as Global Administrator across Microsoft 365 E5, Azure, and Microsoft Intune, owning tenant configuration, licensing, identity, and lifecycle management.

Administer Microsoft Entra ID, including conditional access, application governance, role-based access control, and B2B/external workforce identity.

Manage the multi-site network and security infrastructure, including FortiGate firewalls, SD-WAN, and VLAN segmentation across all offices.

Design and maintain Azure cloud services and govern cloud spend through ongoing cost optimization and resource right-sizing.

Automate administration and provisioning through PowerShell and scripted workflows. Cybersecurity, Compliance & Governance

Lead the company's cybersecurity program, including endpoint protection (Microsoft Defender), identity protection, data loss prevention, and incident response.

Drive federal-contract compliance readiness-CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, and DFARS-including architecture, roadmap, and supporting documentation.

Build and govern the data classification and protection framework using Microsoft Purview (sensitivity labels, DLP) as the foundation for AI/Copilot governance.

Ensure technology and surveillance systems meet regulatory requirements, including NDAA Section 889 compliance for prohibited equipment.

Oversee administrative access governance, audit readiness, business continuity, and disaster-recovery planning. Data, Analytics & Business Applications

Own the company's data and analytics platform, including Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and ADLS/dataflow infrastructure.

Integrate line-of-business systems-such as Salesforce-with reporting platforms to deliver pipeline, operational, and executive dashboards.

Administer and govern Microsoft 365 collaboration and AI tooling, including SharePoint Online and Microsoft Copilot. BIM / VDC Technology Enablement

Support the BIM/VDC division's specialized technology needs, including reality-capture/laser-scanning hardware, point-cloud data workflows, and high-performance computing requirements.

Partner with preconstruction, estimating, and prefabrication teams to enable technology that supports modular and panelized production (e.g., QR-based labeling and tracking). Vendor, Budget & Asset Management

Manage the IT budget, forecasting, and software/hardware licensing across the organization.

Evaluate, select, and manage technology vendors and service providers; negotiate contracts and hold vendors to performance and security standards.

Maintain a complete IT asset inventory and lifecycle records across all sites. Team Leadership & Development

Lead, mentor, and develop the internal IT team, setting priorities, standards, and professional-growth paths.

Allocate workload across the team, balancing day-to-day support with project delivery.

Requirements
Do you have experience in macOS administration?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field-or equivalent professional experience.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in IT administration and infrastructure, including 3+ years in a leadership, supervisory, or management capacity.
- Expert-level administration of Microsoft 365 (E5), Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft Intune, at the Global Administrator level.
- Strong networking and security fundamentals, including firewalls (FortiGate preferred), SD-WAN, VLANs, and zero-trust/conditional-access concepts.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation with PowerShell.
- Working knowledge of endpoint management for both Windows (Autopilot) and Apple (Business Manager/DEP) fleets.
- Demonstrated experience supporting multiple sites and a distributed/field workforce.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for executive and non-technical audiences., * Experience in construction, engineering, or another AEC-industry environment.
- Familiarity with federal-contract compliance frameworks: CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, and DFARS.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview, data loss prevention, and Microsoft 365 Copilot governance.
- Experience with data and analytics platforms (Microsoft Fabric, Power BI) and CRM integration (Salesforce).
- Exposure to BIM/VDC technologies, reality capture/laser scanning, or point-cloud workflows.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified (Azure/Security/Modern Work), CompTIA Security+, or Fortinet NSE.
