We focus on engineering excellence and operational rigor to ensure our systems remain responsive and scalable as our business evolves. As a Software Engineer on this team, you'll work on mission-critical backend services and event streams that sit at the core of Wayfair's order processing. You'll help build resilient infrastructure and write high-quality code that directly influences the customer experience and business outcomes for every purchase made on our platform.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and maintain high-concurrency backend services and event-driven workflows that manage the end-to-end order lifecycle
  • Design and implement scalable APIs and event streams to facilitate order placement, fulfillment, and modifications
  • Write and optimize high-quality code in object-oriented languages such as C#/.NET or Java for core order management applications
  • Build and improve validation, monitoring, and alerting to help ensure system reliability and order data integrity
  • Build and support services and interfaces that expose orders data to downstream systems
  • Partner with product managers, analysts, and engineers to identify and implement enhancements to order management systems
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices across application and data pipeline code
  • Use observability and monitoring tools to troubleshoot issues and improve system performance

Requirements

  • You bring a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • You have 3+ years of experience in software engineering
  • You have 3+ years of experience developing production systems in an object-oriented language such as C#/.NET, Java, or a similar language
  • You have experience with Kafka or similar event streaming platforms
  • You're comfortable writing SQL and have 2+ years of experience working with relational data concepts such as joins, keys, partitions, and data types
  • You're familiar with backend service or API patterns
  • You understand data quality, validation, and monitoring concepts for data pipelines or backend systems
  • You bring strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and a collaborative mindset
  • You have experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD tooling, observability platforms such as Datadog or Grafana, and caching technologies such as Redis or Aerospik
