Job description

  • Support the development and optimisation of security tooling aligned with Asset Management, Vulnerability Management, Proactive Monitoring, Endpoint Detection and Response, Identity and Access Management.
  • Assist with proactive monitoring, detection, and incident response, ensuring security events are triaged and contained effectively.
  • Support the scoping and co-ordination of Penetration Testing activities, including remediation tracking.
  • Assist in securing cloud and on-premises environments (e.g. Azure, M365, infrastructure platforms).
  • Contribute to the development of processes aligned to a "Defend as One" security culture across ICT.
  • Support compliance monitoring across Asset, Vulnerability, Patch, and Configuration Management.
  • Assist with risk assessments, security reviews, and alignment to the NIST framework.
  • Help measure and improve the effectiveness of security controls using metrics and reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, national policing partners, and external suppliers to strengthen cyber security capability.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to security controls, processes, and technical standards.
  • Create and maintain clear, professional security documentation, including procedures, standards, and reporting outputs.

Requirements

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Cyber Security Analyst to join our ICT Department. This is a full-time, permanent position based at our Headquarters in Liverpool and an excellent opportunity for someone looking to launch a successful career in Cyber Security.

Cyber security is a fast-evolving, highly dynamic field, and this role will provide exposure across a wide range of disciplines. You will gain hands-on experience in areas including Security Engineering, Security Operations (SOC), Proactive Monitoring, Incident Response, Threat Intelligence, Cloud Security, and Policy & Compliance.

The ideal candidate must show a broad knowledge of technology enabled services, with a specific educational background in Cyber Security, and a clear passion for the subject that can be evidenced during the application process.

As a member of the Technical Support Team, you will have active involvement in multiple technology areas, supporting the development of security controls and processes aligned to the NIST Cyber Security Framework. You will contribute to the ongoing development and management of enterprise security tooling, helping to strengthen detection, response, and resilience capabilities across Merseyside Police.

  • Demonstrable interest and involvement in a Cyber Security subject area (e.g. labs, projects, or independent learning).
  • Ability to conduct research and development to stay up to date with security trends.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, forward-thinking and open mindset.
  • Good communication skills and an ability to work effectively with colleagues, suppliers, and national teams.
  • A broad knowledge of modern ICT environments, including networks, infrastructure, cloud platforms, applications, and data services.
