Job description
Our client is one of the UK's most recognised and influential communications organisations - a household name that keeps the country connected and is right at the heart of the nation's digital infrastructure. This isn't a small fish; this is a business that operates at serious scale and is actively shaping what comes next in networking and technology. The Engineering team works across a wide variety of platforms and technology stacks, maintaining and developing both bespoke and off-the-shelf capabilities for some incredibly demanding customers. The team is London-based, collaborative, and built around a genuine culture of technical excellence - if you're the kind of engineer who wants to work on complex, meaningful problems with smart people around you, this is the place. To be considered, you'll need strong hands-on experience across enterprise routing protocols (think OSPF, BGP, IS-IS), LAN switching, and network security - including firewalls, IPSec and 802.1x. Exposure to SD-WAN, automation tooling like Ansible or Terraform, and third-line support for complex IP networks will put you right at the front of the queue. You'll also need to hold or be eligible for DV clearance, so that's a must. Sound like you? APPLY TODAY and let's talk., · Design, build, test and maintain all network infrastructure components end-to-end.
· Implement new and enhanced network technologies aligned to customers' strategic connectivity goals.
· Manage installation and configuration of physical and virtual network hardware including firewalls and routers.
· Drive implementation of core and cloud infrastructure security to manage risk and exposure.
· Contribute to technology lifecycle planning and network health assessments and roadmaps.
· Deliver documentation, knowledge transfer and training to support new solutions into operations.
· Mentor junior engineering professionals and act as a technical resource for the wider team.
· Champion emerging trends and keep the team current on developments in network engineering.
Requirements
· Experience with enterprise and operator-scale routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, LDP or RSVP.
· Strong knowledge of LAN switching including RSTP/MSTP, LAG, MC-LAG and first-hop resilience protocols.
· Experience implementing network security including MACSEC, IPSEC and 802.1x.
· Knowledge of network security design including firewall, IDS and IPS configuration and management.
· Experience designing, building and providing third-line support for complex, resilient IP networks.
· Experience integrating networks and management software in on-premise environments.
· Strong documentation skills with careful attention to change management processes.
· Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical teams and senior customers alike.
Additional benefits
· Exposure to Software Defined Networking principles, ideally with VMware NSX.
· Experience with network automation and Infrastructure-as-Code tooling such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet or Chef.
· Transferable automation experience with Cisco DNA Centre.
· Experience working in a DevOps environment alongside software and infrastructure teams.
· Relevant industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE or equivalent.
