Job description

Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the design, deployment, optimization, and sustainment of secure Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and enterprise virtualization platforms. This role supports mission-critical infrastructure by engineering scalable, resilient, and secure systems while conducting technical risk assessments and providing engineering guidance for modern enterprise technologies. The selected candidate will lead systems engineering efforts involving VMware Horizon, Cisco HyperFlex, virtualization technologies, endpoint management, automation, and infrastructure modernization. Working closely with cybersecurity, network engineering, and infrastructure teams, the Systems Engineer will design and maintain secure virtual desktop environments, optimize system performance, automate deployment processes, and ensure enterprise systems remain compliant, highly available, and operationally efficient., * Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable VMware Horizon Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments supporting enterprise operations.

  • Architect and optimize VMware Horizon platforms utilizing VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and Cisco HyperFlex technologies.
  • Design, configure, and maintain high-performance virtual desktop environments supporting Windows, Linux, and Android emulation workloads.
  • Manage Cisco HyperFlex hyperconverged infrastructure, including compute, storage, virtualization, and networking resources.
  • Design, develop, and maintain standardized Windows 11 and Linux golden images optimized for security, performance, and operational consistency.
  • Implement GPU virtualization technologies to improve Android emulator performance within virtual desktop environments.
  • Develop and maintain automation workflows for desktop provisioning, deployment, updates, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop automation scripts to streamline virtual desktop provisioning, configuration management, system updates, and operational maintenance.
  • Collaborate with network engineering teams to ensure secure integration of firewalls, VPNs, endpoint security controls, and network segmentation within VDI environments.
  • Support enterprise endpoint management activities including provisioning, patching, hardening, and lifecycle management.
  • Administer Windows and Linux server environments supporting Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and enterprise infrastructure services.
  • Optimize Teradici technologies and PCoIP protocols to improve virtual desktop performance and end-user experience.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments and provide engineering recommendations supporting secure enterprise technologies, cloud computing, mobile platforms, communication protocols, and infrastructure modernization.
  • Participate in systems engineering reviews, architecture planning, infrastructure optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and engineering teams to strengthen enterprise security posture and improve operational resilience.
  • Support compliance initiatives, technical documentation, architecture diagrams, operational procedures, and engineering standards.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, and administering VMware Horizon Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).
  • Hands-on experience with: VMware Horizon, VMware vSphere, VMware ESXi, and VMware vCenter
  • Hands-on experience supporting hyperconverged infrastructure, particularly Cisco HyperFlex.
  • Experience administering enterprise Windows Server environments, including: Active Directory (AD), Group Policy (GPO),DNS, and DHCP.
  • Experience administering Linux operating systems, including CentOS and Ubuntu.
  • Experience optimizing Teradici technologies and PCoIP protocol performance.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Windows and Linux virtual desktop images.
  • Experience implementing automation scripts and workflows supporting virtual desktop deployment and lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise virtualization, systems engineering, infrastructure architecture, and endpoint technologies.
  • Experience supporting secure, highly available enterprise systems within complex operational environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and systems integration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Experience collaborating with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and cross-functional engineering teams.

  • Experience identifying opportunities to improve enterprise infrastructure, virtualization platforms, and endpoint security.

  • Experience implementing innovative technologies that enhance system performance, scalability, and security.

  • Experience participating in infrastructure audits, engineering reviews, and compliance assessments.

  • Knowledge of Zero Trust architecture principles and secure systems engineering practices.

  • Experience supporting enterprise technical risk assessments involving virtualization, cloud computing, networking, and endpoint technologies.

  • Experience supporting modern infrastructure automation and infrastructure-as-code initiatives., * Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline OR

  • Equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, and directly relevant professional experience.
