Job description

  • Creates maps to assist maintenance crews on location of infrastructure.
  • Coordinates the collection and entry of GPS data and incorporates the data into the GIS.
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings to add new infrastructure into the GIS.
  • Updates GIS maps to reflect maintenance and repairs to existing infrastructure.
  • Collaborates with other GIS users within the City of Bryan to maintain data integrity.
  • Provides technical support to other GIS users within the city.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Responds regularly and promptly to work., * Maintain the absolute confidentiality of sensitive files, data, and materials accessed, discussed, or observed while working with City staff.
  • Anticipate, identify, and effectively resolve various issues and problems.
  • Prepare a variety of reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and attendance.
  • Be constantly alert and aware of safe working practices and workplace hazards; ability to initiate positive and appropriate corrective action in the event of a sudden accident or equipment failure.
  • Comply with City and department administrative directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the incumbent's area of responsibility.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities., Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, stretching, using hands and fingers to operate computers, objects, tools, or controls, and lifting and moving objects up to 25 pounds. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting and outdoor field environment. While in the field, there is exposure to inclement weather, temperature extremes, wet and/or humid conditions, noise, dust, pollen, and other airborne particles. Equipment Work shall be performed with tools, appliances, and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority, or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.

Equipment may include but is not limited to: phones, computers, computer plotters, printers, copiers, fax machines, drafting equipment, and vehicles.

The primary software used includes: ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), MicroStation, and AutoCAD. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED plus at least five (5) years of work experience utilizing GIS and GPS; or an Associate's degree with significant coursework in Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Sciences, Geospatial Technology, or a related field of study plus at least one (1) year of work experience utilizing GIS and GPS; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, certification, and training that provides the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the job.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree with significant coursework in Geography, Spatial Sciences, or a related field of study plus one1 year of experience utilizing GIS and GPS.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Working knowledge of:

  • ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate collaborative, respectful, and productive work habits.
  • Present a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Create, edit, and maintain GIS data in a geodatabase as well as other data formats native to ArcGIS.
  • Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment to produce drawings and maps.
  • Use GPS technology to record the location of existing infrastructure and work outside for extended periods.
  • Combine knowledge of GIS databases and software with common sense and insight in solving problems and making decisions.
  • Organize workload; establish priorities; and meet established deadlines and standards of work output., * Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements Texas Class C driver's license with a good driving record as measured by the City's evaluation system.
