Job description
The City of Independence Technology Services Department is seeking an analytical, detail-oriented Systems Administrator to support the City's enterprise applications and database systems. This position focuses on application performance, database management, and data integrity-playing a critical role in maintaining the systems that power essential city operations. You'll manage enterprise software environments, oversee integrations, and ensure the smooth functioning of platforms such as Tyler Technologies' MUNIS ERP, Cityworks, and other enterprise systems used by multiple City departments., Database & Systems Administration
- Administer and optimize SQL Server databases, including user permissions, configurations, and maintenance.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity to ensure reliability.
- Support integrations and data synchronization between ERP, permitting, and GIS systems.
Application Management
- Install, configure, and update enterprise software and associated modules.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate and validate system upgrades, security patches, and data migration activities.
Systems Analysis & Improvement
- Conduct technical and process analysis to identify opportunities for workflow improvement.
- Collaborate with internal departments to document requirements and translate them into system functionality.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including configuration details and procedures.
Governance & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with data security and user access controls.
- Track and report performance metrics, system uptime, and administrative activities.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure secure, compliant system implementations.
Requirements

- Proficiency in system troubleshooting, application configuration, and technical documentation.

Preferred Experience
- Administration of Tyler Technologies' MUNIS ERP or other large-scale ERP systems.
- Working knowledge of Cityworks PLL/AMS, ArcGIS, or related municipal software platforms.
- Experience with SQL scripting, database performance tuning, and application integrations (ETL, APIs, or middleware).
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field and a minimum of four (4) years' progressively responsible experience in systems or database administration; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. A valid driver's license is required. Must complete required NIMS level training within the first six months of hire.
Physical Demands: Frequently required to walk, sit, and kneel, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, talk or hear, and occasionally lift and/or move up to approx. 10 lbs.
Drug testing Background Check In addition to the application, testing and/or examinations may be required for further consideration on this position. Due to the 24/7 nature of IT systems, this role is up to 100% on-site work. This position will also participate in an on-call rotation for emergency issues outside of business hours.
