Job description

The Application Engineer, Asset Management creates and maintains software applications and data solutions to meet business needs within the Investments organization. The work of the Application Engineer, Inv involves planning, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support. This role operates at the intersection of application engineering, data integration, and production support, enabling portfolio managers, analysts, and operations teams through reliable, scalable, and well-governed technology solutions. The Application Engineer, Inv focuses on individual application components or subsystems within larger systems, working in a collaborative team environment., * Provide support for business applications (proprietary and/or vendor applications) including:

  • Enhancement and/or new development work on projects.
  • Upgrades to existing systems and platforms.
  • Routine maintenance and support activities.
  • Participation in on-call rotation to provide 24x7 support for production systems.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with business partners, analysts, and other application engineers. Use established agile methodologies and tools to identify, verify, and document technical features supporting business-driven technology solutions.
  • Work with other application engineers and architects to ensure application components function appropriately, data impacts are considered and change management processes are followed.
  • Develop, integrate, test, debug, and document application components using a variety of technologies.
  • Install and deploy application components by following implementation and verification procedures to ensure successful production outcomes.
  • Mentor other Application Engineers to develop skills and knowledge.
  • Automate recurring processes involving data ingestion, transformation, validation, and reporting to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Support analytics platforms and environments used by data analysts, including managing dependencies and ensuring reproducibility.
  • Maintain documentation for applications, data flows, and operational procedures.
  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain application components, data pipelines, and integrations supporting investment systems and analytics workflows.
  • Build and maintain data integrations and pipelines supporting portfolio holdings, reference data, benchmark/index data, pricing, and performance-related workflows.
  • Develop and support APIs and integrations across internal systems and external vendor platforms.
  • Diagnose and resolve moderately complex issues across application code, data pipelines, APIs, databases, and infrastructure environments (Linux/Windows).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, business, mathematics, or related field.
  • 3+ years' technical experience in application engineering, data engineering, or production support.
  • Experience with development languages, tools, and structures (e.g., Python, R, SQL or similar technologies).
  • Experience with vendor package implementation and system integration.
  • Business knowledge for the area of support.
  • Experience working with data pipelines, APIs, or system integrations.
  • Experience troubleshooting issues across applications, data, and infrastructure layers.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $94,175.00 - $127,413.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
