Senior Data Engineer

Charles Simon Associates are exclusively recruiting for a Senior Data Engineer on an initial 6 month contract with the potential to extend. You will be joining the Data & Insights team at the start of a new migration program., We need a delivery focused Senior Data Engineer to help build, optimise, and scale foundational data pipelines and the data warehouse. This is a hands-on role for someone with strong SQL and T-SQL, real ETL/ELT development experience, and solid knowledge of the Microsoft data stack. You will work alongside a BI Data Engineer and a Data Quality Manager, making sure high quality data is available for reporting in Tableau and Power BI and for decisions across the business., * Migrate, build, and maintain robust, scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data.

• Help develop and maintain a modern data architecture, including optimising on-prem data warehouses.
• Design performant data models (star schema) and apply data transformations.
• Implement data observability, testing, and validation checks (such as DBT tests) to protect data integrity.
• Set up dynamic pipeline orchestration and CI/CD automation of validated code.
• Work closely with stakeholders to turn business requirements into production-ready data products.
• Deliver against clear targets, including a data model at the end of each 4 week cycle and data sets to support regulatory requirements early in the contract.

• Strong SQL and T-SQL, including stored procedures.
• Proven ETL/ELT pipeline development on Azure and SQL Server.
• Hands-on orchestration experience with SSIS, SQL Agent, and Azure Data Factory.
• Solid data modelling, ideally star schema design.
• Experience implementing data quality checks and testing (DBT or similar).
• Comfortable with Git and GitHub in a CI/CD workflow.
• Working knowledge of Tableau and Power BI from the data delivery side.
