Job description
We are seeking a Senior Scientist I to join our AMS Metabolism team in Hoddesdon. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced scientist with expertise in metabolite identification, high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), and LC-MS/MS data interpretation to play a key role in supporting drug development programmes.
Working as a technical specialist within the group, you will lead metabolite identification activities for both regulatory and non-regulatory studies, contribute to scientific discussions with clients, support the development of innovative analytical approaches, and help drive continuous improvement across the department., * Act as a technical expert in metabolite identification and structure elucidation using High Resolution Mass Spectrometry.
- Conduct analytical and metabolite identification studies to meet project timelines and client requirements.
- Develop and optimise LC-MS/MS chromatographic methods and provide scientific consultation across the wider Metabolism Department.
- Interpret complex analytical data and prepare accurate scientific updates, reports, and study documentation.
- Support client interactions, including scientific discussions, meetings, teleconferences, and site visits.
- Provide technical updates to Project Managers, Study Directors, and senior management throughout the study lifecycle.
- Ensure all work is performed and documented in accordance with GxP requirements, study plans, SOPs, and company standards.
- Maintain responsibility for assigned laboratory equipment, software platforms, and laboratory areas.
- Lead process improvement initiatives and support the development of new services and capabilities within the department.
- Contribute to the external scientific profile of the team through publications, presentations, posters, and participation in expert groups.
- Develop and deliver training materials while mentoring and supporting less experienced colleagues.
- Support project costing activities and provide technical input for bespoke client programmes.
- Participate in recruitment activities, including interviewing and assessing prospective candidates.
Requirements
- PhD, MSc or BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in metabolite identification within a CRO, pharmaceutical, or agrochemical environment.
- Strong experience in chromatographic method development and optimisation.
- Experience working within regulated GxP environments.
- Proficient in the use of high-resolution mass spectrometry platforms such as Waters Vion, Thermo Q Exactive, and Orbitrap systems.
- Experience using relevant software packages including Xcalibur, Waters UNIFI, and Compound Discoverer.
- Strong understanding of drug metabolism and metabolic pathways.
- Excellent LC-MS/MS data interpretation and structure elucidation skills.
- Strong scientific reporting, presentation, and communication skills.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing colleagues.
- Good project management, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
