Job description

Location: Brunel University London, Uxbridge Campus

Technical Services at Brunel University of London is seeking an experienced Senior Technician in Biomechanics to support teaching and research across Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences and Health Sciences.

This is a rare opportunity to join during a major investment phase. A £540,000 Wolfson Foundation grant is funding a new, fully accessible biomechanics laboratory opening in 2026. You will play a key role in supporting current facilities while helping to establish and operate this new laboratory.

We are looking for a candidate with proven, hands-on experience in biomechanics. You must be confident working with specialist equipment including motion capture, force plates, EMG, instrumented treadmills and walkways, and dynamometry, and able to independently manage setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

You will support teaching and research activity, ensuring effective use of equipment by students and staff, and maintaining high standards of data quality. Experience of data processing and familiarity with tools such as MATLAB or Python are highly advantageous.

This is not a graduate entry role. You will bring existing experience of working in a biomechanics or closely related laboratory environment and must be able to confidently support the use of specialist equipment in teaching and research for students and staff at all levels. You will be expected to operate independently and provide technical guidance in a varied, multi-user environment.

As a senior technician, you will contribute to laboratory development, continuous improvement, and the expansion of biomechanical capability across the University.

You will need strong organisational and communication skills, a proactive approach, and a clear understanding of laboratory health and safety requirements.

This role offers the opportunity to shape a growing facility, work with modern equipment, and support impactful research and teaching within a collaborative technical community.

Brunel offers generous leave, pension benefits, and ongoing professional development.
