Job description
As a Network Development Engineer you will:
- Support and maintain our next generation networks.
- Deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.
- Work closely with our broader Network Engineering & Deployment teams to ensure operational readiness for new deployments.
- Drive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies.
- Participate and drive impact mitigation during large-scale events utilizing an established Event Management process.
- Drive event deep dives for large-scale events, deliver high-quality documentation for the events and drive corrective actions to completion.
- Improve our detection mechanisms by designing and implementing new alerts.
- Create and review documentation and process regarding recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.
- Troubleshoot interconnectivity issues, including troubleshooting of network device configuration and low level application interaction.
- Identify and drive opportunities to repeatable tasks through creation and maintenance of scripts and tools.
A day in the life We work with internal partners to develop and implement the next gen platforms along with the tooling ecosystems to support with these platforms driving efficiency and scalability through the automation of builds, configuration deployment, and the scaling of capacity. As our network is one of the largest in the world, there is no blue print at our scale allowing our engineers to develop solutions to the complex challenges that we face daily. We encourage durable solutions that look around corners while taking into consideration our customer needs from a cost, performance, and reliability perspective. Our team develops tooling that provides the required visibility and control of traffic across the network, while prioritizing the automatic mitigation of events to minimize the impact to our customers during events.
- Work in a 24x7 team on call rotation, with ability to drive into workplace for critical events/needs.
- Manage customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
- Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
- Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
Requirements
4+ years of major internet routing protocols experience
- 4+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals such as BGP, OSPF and other R&S technologies
- Experience with networking fundamentals including hands-on experience with load balancers, switches, routers, etc.
