Job description

We are seeking a mid to senior level Integration Engineer with strong experience in healthcare interoperability and system integration. The ideal candidate will design, implement, and maintain integrations with EMRs, health information exchanges, payers, and partner systems. This role requires expertise in HL7, FHIR, Mirth Connect, and healthcare data standards, as well as technical skills in SQL, databases, and scripting languages such as JavaScript. The Integration Engineer will work closely with clinical, business, and technical teams to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient data exchange that supports patient care and operational objectives., * Integration Development & Maintenance

  • Design, configure, and maintain HL7 interfaces using Mirth Connect (NextGen Connect).

  • Implement FHIR APIs and other modern interoperability standards.

  • Build and support real-time and batch data exchanges between EMRs, ancillary systems, and external partners.

  • Implementation & Project Lifecycle

  • Project Discovery & Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with stakeholders to capture functional and technical requirements, ensuring alignment with business and clinical needs.

  • Specification Translation & Adherence: Translate requirements into interface specifications, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and organizational policies.

  • Integrated Testing & Validation: Develop test plans, coordinate integrated testing with stakeholders, and validate results to ensure quality and reliability of solutions.

  • Deployment & Documentation: Support go-live activities, create technical documentation, and ensure knowledge transfer to operational teams.

  • Provide post-implementation support, including troubleshooting and optimization.

  • Data Management

  • Write and optimize SQL queries for data validation, reporting, and troubleshooting.

  • Navigate and analyze relational databases to ensure data accuracy and integrity.

  • Perform data transformations, mapping, and testing for new and existing integrations.

  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Monitor interface performance, resolve issues, and minimize downtime.

  • Collaborate with vendors, IT, and clinical staff to identify and resolve integration problems.

  • Document interface specifications, workflows, and troubleshooting steps.

  • Collaboration & Project Management

  • Work within Agile/Scrum or hybrid project frameworks, tracking progress in Jira.

  • Document processes, workflows, and knowledge in Confluence.

  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Healthcare Integration Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of HL7 v2.x messaging (ADT, ORU, ORM, SIU, etc.).

  • Hands-on experience with Mirth Connect channel development and deployment.

  • Understanding of FHIR resources and implementation strategies.

  • Technical Proficiency

  • Proficient in SQL and database navigation (MS SQL preferred).

  • Experience with JavaScript for data transformations and scripting.

  • Familiarity with APIs (REST, SOAP) and web services.

  • Tools & Platforms

  • Practical experience with Jira and Confluence for project tracking and documentation.

  • Exposure to source control tools (e.g., Git) is a plus.

  • Professional Skills:

  • 3 7+ years of experience in healthcare integration or related IT roles.

  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative, cross-functional environment., * Experience with other interoperability standards (CCD/C-CDA, X12, IHE profiles).

  • Familiarity with major EMR/EHR platforms (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, PointClickCare, etc.).

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, PHI handling, and healthcare data privacy/security requirements.

  • Exposure to cloud integration tools (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
