Job description
The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable, governed data pipelines and data platforms that enable high-quality, trusted data across Finance and Financial Reporting functions in the United States. This role plays a critical part in the end-to-end data and analytics lifecycle, contributing directly to production-grade data solutions and enterprise data platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to work on MetLife's modern lakehouse platform using Azure and Databricks, helping build a unified, reusable data foundation (Bronze/Silver/Gold) that reduces manual effort, improves data quality, and drives faster, more reliable business insights., * Design and build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure and Databricks to ingest, process, and transform large volumes of structured and unstructured data
- Develop and manage data solutions leveraging Delta Lake, Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold), and Unity Catalog to ensure governed, high-quality data products
- Support and optimize data pipelines through monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting to ensure reliability, scalability, and efficiency
- Implement and enhance DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and environment promotion across development, QA, and production environments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Data Governance, Data Quality, Finance, and Technology to deliver reliable data solutions supporting Financial Reporting and enterprise analytics initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field experience.
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering, including building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines for large-scale data processing
- Strong programming and querying skills in SQL and Python or Scala for data transformation and pipeline development
- Hands-on experience with Azure and Databricks, including building pipelines using modern data platforms and big data frameworks (e.g., Spark)
- Experience implementing data engineering best practices, including performance optimization, data quality validation, and scalable pipeline design, * Relevant cloud certifications in Azure or Databricks (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, Databricks Certified Professional)
- Experience with Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, and Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) in a lakehouse environment
- Experience in Financial Services / Insurance domain and integration of Data Quality or Data Governance frameworks
Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
Benefits & conditions
The expected salary range for this position is $85,000 - $114,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
