Job description
A Database Operations Support Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day stability, monitoring, and maintenance of database environments across development, QA, and production. The role ensures high availability, performance, security, and reliability of database systems while providing operational support, troubleshooting, and incident resolution., Monitor database health, performance, backups, replication, and storage utilization across platforms (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.).
Perform daily operational checks, log reviews, and alert triage to ensure system stability and uptime.
Troubleshoot and resolve incidents related to connectivity, performance degradation, failed jobs, backup issues, and resource bottlenecks.
Support deployments, schema changes, configuration updates, and environment refreshes.
Execute routine maintenance tasks including patching, upgrades, parameter tuning, and storage optimization.
Manage user access, roles, permissions, and security controls in compliance with organizational standards.
Maintain and validate backup and recovery processes, including participation in DR testing.
Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cloud, and network teams to resolve cross-platform issues.
Document SOPs, runbooks, and operational workflows to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing.
Participate in on-call rotation and provide timely incident response and root-cause analysis.
Assist in automation efforts to reduce manual tasks and improve operational efficiency.
Provision, configure, and maintain AWS RDS instances (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle).
Monitor RDS performance insights, CloudWatch metrics, storage autoscaling, and connection thresholds.
Manage clusters, replicas, failovers, and parameter groups.
Administer RDS backups, snapshots, cross-region backups, and snapshot exports.
Configure Multi-AZ, read replicas, and global database setups for HA/DR, DRS.
Review and apply AWS-managed patching and engine version upgrades and use of SSM.
Troubleshoot RDS events, slow queries, IOPS bottlenecks, and VPC/networking issues and advanced database insights.
Integrate RDS with IAM authentication, KMS encryption, CloudTrail, and Secrets Manager.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or minimum 5-7 years equivalent Work Experience
Hands-on experience with one or more database platforms (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.).
Strong understanding of Linux/Unix and Windows server environments.
Familiarity with cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL).
Ability to analyze logs, troubleshoot performance issues, and interpret monitoring metrics.
Knowledge of backup tools, replication technologies, and high-availability configurations.
Scripting experience (Shell, Python, PowerShell) for automation and operational tooling.
Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-team coordination.
Initiative and problem-solving skills to support project level work with moderate oversight/guidance
