Job description

Nomad Technology Solutions is a small, growing technology services operation providing full-scope IT management to a client base in South Carolina. We operate like a boutique managed services provider - lean, responsive, and hands-on - handling everything from server infrastructure and cybersecurity to eCommerce development and day-to-day end-user support., We're looking for a capable, self-directed IT Technician to work directly alongside our principal technologist. This is a real, varied role - not a helpdesk queue job. You'll get hands-on exposure to server administration, eCommerce platforms, hosting environments, integrations, VPN infrastructure, compliance work, documentation, and more - all within a tight-knit operation where your work actually matters.

This role starts part-time (~15-25 hrs/week) with a clear path to full-time as the relationship develops. It's an excellent opportunity for someone who wants genuine responsibility, broad technical exposure, and the flexibility of part-time hours - without sacrificing meaningful work.

The hours per week are flexible, but you should expect to be available M-F between 9AM and 5PM EST for urgent issues.

What You'll Be Doing

Day-to-Day Operations:

  • Monitoring and maintaining server infrastructure and hosting environments
  • Providing remote and occasional on-site technical support for Windows and Linux systems
  • Supporting website operations, DNS, hosting, and web service administration
  • Assisting with cybersecurity monitoring, patching, and routine security tasks
  • Coordinating with third-party vendors and software providers
  • Creating and maintaining internal technical documentation (system configs, processes, runbooks) and client-facing documentation (guides, SOPs, how-tos)
  • Logging and documenting issues, resolutions, and ongoing maintenance activities

Occasional & Project-Based Work:

When day-to-day operations allow, you'll also assist with a variety of improvement and project-based tasks. These aren't constant - but they keep things interesting and give you exposure to a much broader range of technologies than a typical support role. Examples include:

  • eCommerce Enhancements - back-end improvements on OpenCart and similar PHP platforms (new functions, checkout improvements, admin tools, integrations)
  • Performance Optimization - implementing caching solutions (Redis), server-side tuning, and hosting configuration improvements
  • Compliance & Accessibility - ADA/WCAG scanning, remediation, and keeping up with evolving web compliance requirements
  • Integration Work - replacing legacy third-party tools with modern alternatives, connecting platforms, reducing unnecessary recurring costs by building or implementing self-hosted alternatives
  • SEO/SEM Implementation - executing content and technical strategies from our agency partner (page updates, redirects, structured content, etc.)
  • Platform Migrations - assisting with moving services between hosting environments for improved reliability and performance

Requirements

Required:

  • 2+ years of hands-on IT support, systems, or web technician experience
  • Solid foundation in Windows and Linux environments
  • Comfortable working remotely and independently with minimal supervision
  • Networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls)
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts - you figure things out
  • Clear communicator across both technical and non-technical contexts

Highly Preferred:

  • Hands-on experience with PHP-based eCommerce platforms (OpenCart, WooCommerce, Magento, or similar)
  • Experience with web hosting environments (cPanel, Cloudflare, server-side administration)
  • Familiarity with VPN tools - Wireguard, Tailscale, or similar
  • Basic PHP, HTML/CSS, or scripting ability
  • Experience with Redis or other caching mechanisms
  • ADA/WCAG compliance familiarity
  • Any relevant certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or similar), We're a small, tight operation. We need someone who takes ownership, communicates proactively, and genuinely enjoys solving problems across a wide range of technologies. If you thrive in a dynamic environment where you're trusted to handle things, you'll fit right in.
