Job description

The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a strategic and technically advanced Cybersecurity and Systems Administration Lead to oversee the provisioning, security, quality assurance, and integration of systems and processes across the Arts and Sciences portfolio. This role is critical to the long-term success of our IT infrastructure and operations, and will serve as the lead architect for secure, scalable, and resilient systems. This is an individual contributor leadership role: rather than managing direct reports, the Lead advises, supports, and sets technical direction for our teams across Arts and Sciences.

We are looking for a visionary technologist who thrives in complex environments, brings innovative solutions to challenging problems, and can guide technical direction across the organization. The Lead joins an Arts & Sciences IT team of roughly two dozen technologists spanning systems and cloud applications, endpoint operations and distributed department support, web development, analytics, and knowledge systems. Working across these groups rather than managing them directly, the Lead sets security and systems-administration standards, advises the systems leads on application and cloud security, supports endpoint operations on endpoint protection, mentors junior engineers, and represents A&S in central University security initiatives. Successful candidates will be resourceful, fast learners, and customer service focused. This role operates on a standard business-hours schedule with no on-call rotation; best-effort availability for occasional after-hours critical issues is appreciated, but the expectation is business hours.

If you're passionate about cybersecurity, systems architecture, and leading transformative IT initiatives, we encourage you to apply!

Job duties include:

Security and Systems Architecture

  • Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies, procedures, and standards aligned with University and external regulations.
  • Administer and monitor system security, including vulnerability management, log analysis, and role provisioning/de-provisioning.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on the school's security and systems management toolset.

  • Review scripts and automation tools to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Manage review and approval of applications in use the Arts and Sciences Dean's Office.
  • Implement and manage security review process for development of cloud applications.
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, capacity planning, and growth analysis

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Guide technical direction and influence departmental and University-wide IT strategies.
  • Represent the College in central University security and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and service providers to ensure high-quality service delivery, This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience: At least five years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree., * Demonstrated experience in systems architecture, cybersecurity, and systems administration.
  • Ability to develop and implement security and infrastructure policies effectively.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, long-term, and strategically significant IT projects.
  • Experience administering Windows (Server and Desktop), MacOS and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with security tools such as Splunk, Datadog, Qualys, and Nessus.
  • Experience with endpoint management tools such as Mosyle, FileWave, Jamf, Intune, and SCCM.
