Insight Global is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join one of our global manufacturing and supplier clients. This person will a specialized R&D team that is pioneering high-accuracy micro-location technologies that rely on advanced algorithms to achieve centimeter-level precision. By blending sensor data, RF signals, and cutting-edge signal processing, they are transforming how people and machines navigate their environments. This person will join a team to tackle complex real-world problems with creativity, collaboration, and a spirit of continuous innovation. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Develop embedded Linux software that runs on a custom kernel directly on a network switch device

  • Build Linux images using Yocto or Buildroot and deploy them to embedded network hardware

  • Develop and debug Linux drivers and networking-related software components

  • Work at the register level to interface with and control external hardware

  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to debug system-level issues

  • Use oscilloscopes and lab tools to probe boards and diagnose timing and synchronization behavior

  • Own assigned workstreams, including task planning, execution, and delivery against timelines

  • Support experimentation and rapid iteration in an R&D-style environment

  • Contribute to system discussions around timing, synchronization, MAC behavior, and signal integrity

  • Proficiency in C and C+- Experience using CMake to build large or complex software projects

  • Strong ability to read IC datasheets and work at the register level to control hardware

  • Experience developing or debugging Linux drivers and networking-related software

  • Exposure to hardware development and lab-based debugging - Experience with Microchip iStaX networking software

  • Experience with networking protocols related to timing and synchronization (e.g., gPTP)

  • Experience with MAC-layer protocols

  • Exposure to RF concepts or signal integrity

  • Experience with FreeRTOS or general embedded MCU development

  • Experience working with Docker images or containerized build environments

  • Experience setting up or supporting CI/CD pipelines for automated builds and releases

  • Background in products where timing, synchronization, or precision signaling is critical
