Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior macOS Software Engineer to take ownership of the macOS architecture for our commercial software products.

This is a highly technical role where you'll ensure our sophisticated C++ image analysis and 3D rendering applications perform seamlessly across Apple's hardware ecosystem. You'll drive performance, reliability and scalability while maintaining cross-platform compatibility and leveraging the latest macOS technologies.

You'll work alongside talented software engineers, scientists and product teams to deliver innovative solutions that directly enable world-leading research and discovery., * Architect, design, develop and maintain native macOS application features and cross-platform C++ core libraries.

  • Lead the development and optimisation of software for Apple Silicon and the wider macOS ecosystem.
  • Resolve complex platform-specific challenges involving rendering, memory management and multi-threading.
  • Deliver robust, scalable and maintainable solutions to technically demanding problems.
  • Drive continuous improvement across software development, testing and deployment processes.
  • Manage and optimise Xcode builds, CMake configurations and macOS CI/CD pipelines.
  • Gather requirements and contribute to the development of both new and legacy products.
  • Support internal teams and external customers with Mac-specific deployments and technical issues.
  • Participate in technical investigations, innovation initiatives and architectural decisions.
  • Collaborate effectively within Agile development teams.
  • Occasionally travel to other Andor offices and customer sites when required.

Requirements

  • Degree in Software Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a software development role.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and object-oriented software design.
  • Deep understanding of the macOS ecosystem, Apple Silicon architecture, Xcode, build pipelines and memory profiling tools.
  • Strong experience with Git, source control systems and collaborative development practices.
  • Experience across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through testing and support.
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns and Clean Code principles.
  • Excellent understanding of data structures, algorithms and computational complexity.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, take initiative and solve complex technical problems.

Desirable

  • Experience with cross-platform UI frameworks such as Qt.
  • Experience transitioning and supporting cross-platform applications on macOS.
  • Knowledge of computer vision, image analysis or scientific imaging applications.
  • Experience within Life Sciences, scientific software or related domains.
  • Awareness of cybersecurity principles and secure software development practices.
