Job description

  • Define architecture across complex, data-driven programmes
  • Establish data strategy, integration, and migration approaches
  • Analyse existing systems and map target-state architecture
  • Define and maintain architecture principles, standards, and governance
  • Design scalable solutions for distributed and large-scale data systems
  • Develop enterprise-level data models across platforms and services
  • Ensure alignment with architectural standards throughout delivery
  • Support and govern engineering teams through implementation
  • Mentor and develop engineers and junior architects

Requirements

  • Strong background in data architecture with a foundation in software engineering
  • Experience defining data strategy, migration, and integration approaches
  • Hands-on capability with Java, Scala, or Python where required
  • Experience working with big data technologies and distributed systems
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
  • Experience across both open-source and enterprise data platforms
  • Strong understanding of data modelling and architectural methodologies
  • Experience with microservices architecture and REST-based systems
  • Ability to design for structured and unstructured data environments
  • Understanding of non-functional requirements and system design principles
  • Ability to review code and ensure engineering quality
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical detail clearly
  • Comfortable engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to analyse complex problems and define practical solutions
  • Collaborative approach to delivery across multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work on engagements requiring UK Government BPSS and SC security clearance, in line with programme requirements
