Job description

The Network Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, security, and support of the school district's network infrastructure. This position ensures reliable connectivity for students, teachers, administrators, and staff while supporting instructional technology, district operations, and cybersecurity initiatives. The Network Administrator works closely with the technology team to provide a secure, efficient, and scalable network environment across all district campuses and facilities., * Configure, monitor, and maintain the district's wired and wireless network infrastructure.

  • Install, configure, and support network equipment including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and network controllers.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity, bandwidth, and hardware issues.
  • Manage Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN), VPN connections, and internet services.
  • Maintain district firewall security, intrusion prevention systems, and network access controls.
  • Implement cybersecurity best practices to protect district systems and sensitive data.
  • Administer network authentication services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Configure and maintain network backups and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Support cloud-based services and hybrid network environments.
  • Monitor network health using management and monitoring tools and respond to alerts.
  • Collaborate with technology staff to support classroom technology, VoIP phone systems, surveillance systems, and district applications.
  • Document network configurations, procedures, inventory, and changes.
  • Assist in planning and implementing technology upgrades and infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate with internet service providers, vendors, and contractors when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with district technology policies, cybersecurity standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Provide after-hours or emergency support during outages, upgrades, or critical incidents as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience administering enterprise networks (preferred).
  • Experience in K–12 education or public sector environments preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple locations connected through WAN technologies is preferred.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • CompTIA Network+
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Fortinet NSE or equivalent firewall certification
  • Microsoft Certified credentials

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking principles.
  • Experience with Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet, or equivalent networking equipment.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols, VLANs, VPNs, QoS, and network segmentation.
  • Experience with wireless networking standards and wireless controller management.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server administration, Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles, endpoint protection, and network security monitoring.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining excellent customer service.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in ceilings, network closets, and equipment rooms.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel between district campuses.
