Job description

Are you an experienced 2nd Line Network Engineer looking to take the next step into a more varied, hands-on role where you'll design, deliver and support networking and connectivity solutions across a diverse range of high-profile projects?

Our client is an established and fast-growing technology business specialising in the design, deployment and support of networking, Wi-Fi and internet connectivity solutions across temporary, remote and challenging environments. Continued growth has created an exciting new opportunity for a talented Network & Technology Engineer to join their close knit technical team.

This is an ideal opening for someone with a strong networking background who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working directly with customers and getting hands-on with technology in the real world, rather than spending every day behind a desk.

Reporting to the Head of IT Operations, you'll play a key role in designing, deploying and supporting networking and connectivity solutions for customers across a wide variety of sectors. One day you could be designing a wireless network for a construction project, the next installing infrastructure at a large-scale live event or troubleshooting a complex networking issue for a customer., * Liaise directly with clients enabling you to design networking, Wi-Fi and connectivity solutions to meet customer requirements.

  • Translate customer requirements into technical specifications, allowing colleagues to accurately provide quotes
  • Build, configure and test networking equipment prior to deployment.
  • Deliver installation and deployment projects across customer sites throughout the UK.
  • Configure, support and troubleshoot a wide range of routers, switches, firewalls and wireless infrastructure.
  • Provide high-quality 2nd Line and 3rd Line technical support, also acting as an escalation point for more complex issues for other members of the team.
  • Troubleshoot networking, connectivity and Wi-Fi performance issues across multiple environments.
  • Produce technical documentation, network diagrams, implementation plans and hardware schedules.
  • Support customer migrations, technology deployments and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Work closely with customers, suppliers and technology partners throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Be the key person in setting the technical standards and contribute to the continuous improvement of technical processes and service delivery.

Requirements

You'll already have solid experience working as a 2nd Line Network Engineer or in a similar networking-focused infrastructure role and be looking for an opportunity that offers greater variety, responsibility and technical challenge.

You'll enjoy combining technical expertise with excellent customer service and be equally comfortable discussing technical solutions with clients as you are rolling your sleeves up and installing equipment on site.

Skills & Experience

  • Network configuration and troubleshooting across Layers 1-7 of the OSI model
  • Routers, switches, firewalls and wireless networking technologies.
  • Wi-Fi deployment, optimisation and fault finding.
  • Structured cabling and fibre networking infrastructure.
  • Windows desktop support.
  • Producing technical documentation and network topology diagrams.
  • Supporting customer facing technical projects.
  • Working independently whilst managing your own workload.

Whilst experience with Microsoft 365, cloud managed networking platforms, satellite or cellular connectivity, CCTV systems or point to point wireless technologies would be advantageous, we're more interested in finding someone with a strong networking background and the right attitude. A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the UK and very occasionally further afield into Europe and beyond are essential.

In return, you'll receive a highly attractive annual bonus, 23 days' holiday plus your birthday off, flexible working arrangements, ongoing professional training, Death in Service benefit and the opportunity to work on an exceptional variety of technologies and projects.
