Job description

Based in Cardiff Bay, Optec is a Fortinet Expert Partner specialising in managed networking and security services. Our NOC/SOC team monitors and manages firewalls, switches, wireless environments, and security infrastructure for a broad customer base throughout the UK and Europe., We have grown rapidly and we are looking to appoint a talented L1 NOC Engineer to join our first-line team.

What Will You Be Doing?

You will work as part of the Optec Network Operations Centre, providing the initial customer point of contact and carrying out the first diagnosis and triage of incidents and change requests. The L1 tier is the entry point into our NOC/SOC progression: you'll build the foundational monitoring, triage, and customer-facing skills that everything above (L2 and L3) builds on.

Core responsibilities:

  • Act as the initial point of contact for customers raising incidents, events, and service requests

  • Carry out first-line diagnosis and triage across firewall, switching, and wireless environments

  • Manage and progress service requests through to resolution or handover

  • Liaise directly with customers and carry out technical testing, resolving issues where possible

  • Escalate to L2 engineers when a ticket requires deeper diagnostic work, rule changes, or configuration beyond your authorisation

  • Log clear, accurate ticket notes so any escalation to L2 or handover across a shift change is smooth

Requirements

  • A strong work ethic and a willingness to take ownership of issues

  • A logical approach to diagnosing problems

  • A demonstrable keen interest in computer networking

  • Excellent customer service skills

Nice to Have

  • Some experience of network / IT monitoring services

  • Benefits package (details below)

  • Company Pension

  • Comprehensive technical training regime, including progression support toward L2

  • Office based

  • Cardiff Bay location, easily commutable with onsite parking

  • Work with an experienced technical services team
