Job description

We are seeking an analytical and technically mature Software Engineer III to join our core team. Collaborating in a fast-paced environment alongside dedicated researchers and engineers, you will serve as a high-visibility individual contributor with complete, end-to-end software ownership.

This stable, core role is designed for a self-starting engineer who can seamlessly bridge the gap between high-level mathematical research and production-grade code. In this position, you will be responsible for taking advanced algorithmic concepts out of a clean simulation environment and successfully deploying them onto a loud, unpredictable manufacturing floor.

Typical Duties, Activities, Responsibilities

  • Algorithmic Design & Validation: Formulate, implement, and validate advanced 2D and 3D computer vision pipelines from mathematical first principles.
  • Transitioning Lab to Field: Port, optimize, and deploy production-quality code that interfaces with physical depth sensors, ensuring real-time control loops remain deterministic and lag-free.
  • Strategic R&D Decision Making: Evaluate system architectures to intelligently determine when to leverage classical image processing workflows versus modern deep learning models to eliminate operational latencies.
  • Technical Ownership & Code Quality: Champion software development best practices by leading meticulous peer code reviews, refactoring legacy components, and managing complex multi-codebase integrations.
  • Hands-on Validation: Collaboratively troubleshoot and fine-tune your vision pipelines live on physical hardware and prototype configurations.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Spatial Mathematics: Solid foundational understanding of linear algebra, geometry, coordinate systems, and rigid-body transformations.
  • 3D Perception Stack: Hands-on experience with 3D computer vision and perception algorithms, including point cloud processing, 3D registration, pose estimation, object detection, object fitting, reconstruction, and related techniques.
  • 2D Image Processing: Experience with 2D image processing and computer vision methods, including image filtering, feature extraction, segmentation, object detection, image registration, and morphological operations.
  • Software Development: Industry experience developing software, algorithms, or perception systems for real-world applications.
  • Analytical Rigor: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and validate algorithms.
  • Production Coding: Demonstrated ability to write efficient, maintainable, and production-quality software in C++ and/or Python.
  • Field Commitments: Willingness to travel to customer and OEM installation sites (approximately 1 week out of 10) to perform live field validations on active machinery.
  • Professional Tenure: Extensive career background comprising 5 to 10 years of focused technical expertise in 3D perception and image processing stacks., * Advanced Degree: M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Domain Expertise: Professional background within the Logistics or Automotive industry.
  • Imaging & Optics: Understanding of camera and imaging systems, including camera calibration, pinhole camera models, stereo vision, and depth sensing technologies.
  • Mathematical Optimization: Background in linear and nonlinear optimization, with practical experience applying optimization techniques to computer vision, robotics, or perception problems.
  • Advanced AI Evaluation: Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning techniques, including CNNs, Transformers, foundation models, multimodal learning, pre-training, fine-tuning, and model deployment, paired with the ability to evaluate the strengths and limitations of modern AI approaches.
  • Hardware Acceleration: GPU programming experience (e.g., CUDA, OpenCL, or related frameworks) is a plus.
  • Engineering Best Practices: Familiarity with software development best practices, including version control, testing, code reviews, and continuous integration.
  • Location Priority: Candidates located in, or willing to relocate to, the Ann Arbor, Michigan area are preferred., o 2nd Round: Problem solving skills and ability to apply knowledge to practical challenges.
