The IDEA Senior Data Analyst is a technical expert and strategic analyst within the Office of Institutional Data, Effectiveness, and Analytics (IDEA) and is responsible for advanced dashboard design, data analytics, and institutional data governance initiatives. The incumbent leads complex data projects and partners with campus leaders to transform data into actionable insight supporting student success, resource planning, and institutional effectiveness., The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Data Validation (25%)- Assesses the quality and accuracy of data used by IDEA and attempts to identify root causes of any inconsistencies. Collaborates with appropriate campus data stewards and custodians to resolve the concerns. Results are documented to ensure data definitions, metrics, and business rules are aligned with institutional data governance policies. Data may be institutional or external datasets, may include quantitative or qualitative (survey) data, and may require additional data modeling and warehousing efforts in partnership with other data stewards.
- Query Building (20%)- Creates and refines queries that can pull updated and accurate information from various data sources (e.g., People Soft/Campus Solutions, CU Central Information Warehouse, Slate, Qualtrics) to be used by others or in various data reports or visualizations.
- Report Generation and Data Visualizations (10%)- Builds and maintains robust, scalable reports and dashboards to support data-informed decision-making at all levels of the institution. These projects may require collaboration with senior leaders and stakeholders across Student Success, Academic Affairs, and Administration and Finance to ensure resulting reports and visualizations are applicable and meaningful to users.
- Mentoring and Training (10%)- Mentors junior analysts and provides training or guidance in best practices for data analysis and visualization within IDEA or with campus data users.

Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., data science, social science, education, business analytics) or substitution of year-for-year experience in data analysis, institutional research, business intelligence, or related field is required.
- Experience analyzing data and generating reporting to support decision and improve outcomes in an organizational setting is required.
- A master's degree in a related field (e.g., education research, data analytics, economics, statistics, public policy) or substitution of year-for-year experience for the degree, is preferred.
- Experience leading research or assessment initiatives in a university setting is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with UCCS systems such as Campus Solutions/PeopleSoft, Oracle, Cognos, Tableau, Ad Astra, Slate, StarRez, and the CU Data Governance framework is highly desirable.
- Evidence of contributions to fostering data culture or improving institutional data processes is desired.

Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.
