Job description

Purpose: GIS Field Specialist: As a GIS Technician, your primary responsibility will be to support the organization's geospatial data management and analysis needs. You will play a crucial role in collecting, processing, and maintaining geographic information system (GIS) data to facilitate accurate mapping and spatial analysis. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will ensure the integrity of spatial databases, troubleshoot data-related issues, and contribute to the development of effective GIS solutions. Your attention to detail and technical proficiency will be essential in producing high-quality maps, conducting spatial analyses, and supporting decision-making processes across the organization. Join us in leveraging the power of geospatial technology to enhance our understanding of spatial relationships and drive informed decision-making. Responsibilities:

  • GIS Data Collection: Provide and oversee the collection of GPS data for the installation of natural gas mains and services.
  • Asset Traceability: Utilize Locusview equipment (barcode scanner and GPS receiver) to be recorded and track the traceability of installed company assets, specifically gas mains and services
  • GIS Database Maintenance: Plot and input GPS data points for above/below-grade assets to create and maintain the GIS database.
  • Record Keeping: Complete gas main record card, service record card, and joint fusion/weld record card forms in Locusview by attaching associated assets to the "company project".
  • GIS Layer Management: Add GIS layers, including parcels, easements, right-of-ways, other development layers, utility infrastructure (e.g., water and sewer system) layers, and pictures as directed by the company.
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control: Follow quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) processes to ensure GIS data accuracy, integrity, and completeness.
  • Project Finalization: Finalize and submit completed "company project" reports in Locusview.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of related experience.
  • Excellent computer and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to perform tasks.
  • Ability to perform with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Physical Demands:

  • Duties are performed primarily in an outdoor setting with exposure to changing weather conditions.
  • Position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, and lift up to 30 pounds
  • Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Ambulatory across uneven surfaces, frequent bending at knees and waist.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers and clients. Must be able to exchange accurate information., * ArcGIS: 1 year (Preferred)
