Job description
At ULA, as a Propulsion Systems Engineer / Software Engineer for the ULA Software Department you are responsible for developing and testing integrated solutions related to the automated launch site command control & communication software. You will be applying fluids, thermodynamic, mechanical systems design, and systems engineering principles to develop and test requirements used to develop software that ensures the health and safety of the launch crew and launch vehicle during critical operations including launch. A core responsibility of the group is ensuring that changes driven from other groups are properly integrated into both Ground Fluids Software Requirements and Parameters. You will develop, update, and maintain software requirements and parameters for and within the ground fluids software, and verify and validate ground fluids software by performing option level and integrated testing of ground fluids software. Team members will support testing of launch pad and vehicle system interfaces with Ground Fluids Software. Be ready to support engineering, production, or launch activity that requires use of ground fluids software, or technical input/review of data related to the functioning of ground fluids software.
You will work with a highly collaborative team in an Agile environment. You will engage with Product Owners, Technology Architects, Airborne and Ground Hardware Design Engineers, Launch Site Operatorsand Software Developers on cross-functional activities to design, develop, and test cutting-edge software and launch vehicle solutions.
- Responsible for developing new software products, implementing modern software design principles, resolving complex technical problems and providing solutions which are innovative and ingenious.
- Will be responsible for refining requirements, designing subsystems, developing code units and performing integration, test and validation of software.
- Will work with a highly collaborative team in an agile environment embracing a "fail fast" mentality (fail fast, fail often, react quickly and learn from every failure).
- Engage with Product Owners, Technology Architects, QA and/or Automation team members on cross-functional activities to design, develop, and test cutting edge software solutions.
Requirements
Minimum of 2 years of related work experience, * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related technical discipline with 2+ years of hands on industry experience
- Experience in the design, operation and/or control of hardware systems, pneumatic systems or cryogenic fluid systems that are used to transfer commodities
- Ability to assess and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and industry/government standards
- Experience with developing requirements and procedures for automated operations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working ina team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to test and troubleshoot software
- Knowledge of launch vehicle design and/oroperation
- Hardware test experience
- Experience with lean-agile development and shared design philosophy
- Understanding and/or exposure to Linux
- Experience with reading and navigating code for trouble shooting requirements and test observations
- Experience in Java and Python scripting
