Job description
This role is categorized as hybrid. The selected candidate will be expected to work on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week, or as otherwise determined by the hiring leader., The Compartment Integration Design Engineer is responsible for integrating and balancing engineering requirements in partnership with Architecture, SMT, Performance, Human Factors, and Manufacturing. This role works at the earliest stages of vehicle development to integrate innovative technology and advanced design at the systems level., * Create, refine, and finalize engineering criteria in collaboration with design and engineering partners
- Lead development of integrated engineering solutions to resolve packaging issues while protecting design intent
- Use physical and mathematical models to evaluate alternatives and support design decisions
- Apply DFSS methodologies to manage tradeoffs involving cost, mass, timing, assembly, dimensional variation, and other program requirements
- Integrate regional and global requirements and develop solutions to support brand and market needs
- Communicate proactively with team members to resolve challenges within Expert Team meetings for assigned areas
- Ensure packaging and studio models align with customer-facing targets, including spaciousness, visibility, occupant accommodation, storage, cargo, and access
- Lead cross-functional surface and integration meetings, including CITs and Surface Workgroups
- Drive issue resolution and escalation for assigned areas of responsibility
- Support technical development of design surfaces in digital models, full-size clay models, clinic properties, and VR/MR mockups
- Benchmark competitive vehicles to ensure package competitiveness in section size, clearances, component locations, component size, and functional performance
- Develop meeting agendas and publish meeting minutes
- Create NX models to guide surface development
- Maintain and strengthen NX modeling skills
- Incorporate Voice of the Customer insights into package design
- Develop space claims and package solutions that maximize space utilization and meet customer needs
- Support Math Virtual Assessments and Synch Point reviews, This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.
Requirements
The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgment, creativity, and initiative, along with a passion for automotive design and the ability to balance customer needs, engineering requirements, and design intent., * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
- 5+ years of experience in a related engineering area
- Understanding of engineering theory and automotive design principles
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to integrate complex systems with a strong passion for design
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve unusual or complex problems
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across functions
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes
- Experience with CAD, including Unigraphics/NX
- Basic understanding of engineering specifications, * Coursework in statistics, mechanics of materials, vehicle/occupant packaging, or integrated design
- DFSS Black Belt certification
