Job description

ATC Automation is seeking a Mid-Senior Level Controls Engineer to join our team at our Simi Valley, California location. In this role, you will design, develop, and support custom automation equipment for a wide range of industries, including Transportation, Life Science, Consumer Products, and General Industry.

A Controls Engineer is responsible for creating electrical and pneumatic schematics, reviewing and analyzing technical drawings, troubleshooting and debugging electrical and pneumatic systems, and determining appropriate material and component specifications. This role also involves programming and commissioning automated machinery with a high level of technical proficiency. The ideal candidate will possess experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley and Siemens), HMIs, robotics, servo systems, vision systems, and a variety of industrial sensors and actuators., * Develop, program, troubleshoot, and support industrial automation systems.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Mitsubishi automation platforms.
  • Read, interpret, and create electrical and pneumatic schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Design, develop, and debug complex control programs for industrial machinery and manufacturing processes.
  • Utilize advanced software tools to develop ladder logic, machine controls, and operator interfaces.
  • Communicate directly with customers to define machine requirements and performance criteria.
  • Apply electrical and controls engineering principles to solve technical challenges and optimize machine performance.
  • Support installation, startup, commissioning, and validation of completed automation systems.
  • Travel as required to customer facilities for installation, troubleshooting, and support activities.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field .
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in custom automation, machine building, or a related industrial controls environment.
  • Strong understanding of PLC programming, HMI development, motion control, robotics, and industrial communication networks.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Physical Demands

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
  • Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently.
  • Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • VISUAL ACUITY: Near acuity with or without accommodation.
  • HEARING Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose.
