Job description

  • Developing, documenting, and maintaining datasets related to the production and commercialization of scientific discoveries
  • Conducting analyses to support entrepreneurship, innovation, and engagement initiatives with corporations and alumni
  • Assisting other campus entities in the adoption and use of large datasets for their own needs
  • Supporting efforts by Cornell IT and the Cornell AI Initiative to incorporate dataset products into dashboards, websites, and other resources for faculty and staff use
  • Staying abreast of and recommending improvements to data sources, including LinkedIn, PitchBook, and OpenAlex

Requirements

Cornell Research & Innovation seeks candidates for a new entry-level data science position working with large datasets to analyze and connect new scientific discoveries with potential commercialization opportunities. Prospective candidates will possess experience working with terabyte-size datasets and be adept working with applicable software and LLM-based tools. The position will report to and work closely with the Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and External Engagement., * Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as computer science or data analytics; an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education also may be considered

  • Keen understanding of software development
  • Demonstrated facility with software tools for merging and reporting on terabyte-size datasets, including programming languages like Python and LLM-based tools like Claude Code, Grok Build, and Codex
  • Experience with multithreaded program design
  • Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing

Additionally, although not required, the following would represent pluses:

  • Interest in science and innovation
  • Familiarity with datasets relating to innovation and academia, such as patents and academic publications
