Job description
JRH is seeking a Senior Oracle Database Administrator to administer, secure, optimize, monitor, and support enterprise Oracle database environments for a federal health research customer. The role supports development, test, and production databases across on-premises and cloud environments and requires advanced expertise in standalone and multitenant architecture, Data Guard, RMAN, Data Pump, GoldenGate, SQL and PL/SQL, performance tuning, troubleshooting, security, backup, recovery, and data integration., · Administer Oracle databases in development, test, staging, disaster-recovery, and production environments.
· Support standalone and multitenant Oracle architectures across Windows, Linux, Unix, on-premises, and cloud environments.
· Install, configure, patch, upgrade, secure, monitor, and troubleshoot Oracle database software, clients, listeners, and supporting components.
· Design, implement, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot Oracle Data Guard configurations and high-availability capabilities.
· Configure and administer Oracle GoldenGate replication, data synchronization, and related monitoring.
· Plan, execute, validate, and document RMAN backups, restores, point-in-time recovery, disaster-recovery testing, and recovery procedures.
· Perform Oracle Data Pump export/import, schema migration, data refresh, DDL/DML deployment, and environment synchronization activities.
· Write, review, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, packages, functions, triggers, views, and database jobs.
· Perform performance analysis and tuning using execution plans, indexing, statistics, memory configuration, wait events, workload data, and monitoring tools.
· Configure and monitor job scheduling, database health, replication status, storage, capacity, resource use, availability, and daily operational processes.
· Manage database users, roles, privileges, service accounts, authentication, auditing, encryption, and security configuration.
· Support application integrations, web services, external federal systems, data marts, reporting platforms, and business-intelligence tools such as Power BI or Qlik.
· Troubleshoot complex database, connectivity, client, performance, replication, backup, recovery, and production incidents.
· Develop and maintain database architecture documentation, standard operating procedures, runbooks, backup/recovery plans, and operational records.
· Support federal security, privacy, vulnerability-remediation, configuration-management, change-control, and audit requirements.
· Provide capacity planning, architecture recommendations, technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
· More than 10 years of Oracle database-administration experience.
· Extensive experience administering Oracle databases in standalone and multitenant architectures.
· Extensive experience administering Oracle databases on Windows, Linux, or Unix in both on-premises and cloud environments.
· Extensive experience implementing and maintaining Oracle Data Guard.
· Extensive experience with RMAN backup and recovery, Oracle export/import or Data Pump, Oracle GoldenGate, and database job scheduling and monitoring.
· Advanced SQL and PL/SQL skills.
· Strong database-performance tuning and troubleshooting skills.
· Experience installing, configuring, or troubleshooting Oracle client software and database connectivity.
· Strong security, documentation, incident-response, communication, and customer-support skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
· Experience with Oracle Database 19c.
· Experience administering Oracle on Linux.
· Experience administering MySQL on Ubuntu.
· Experience supporting federal systems, data marts, reporting platforms, or cloud-hosted databases.
Work Requirements:
· Ability to satisfy federal background, suitability, identity-credentialing, and system-access requirements.
· Ability to work remotely within the United States and attend occasional onsite meetings in Bethesda, Maryland.
· Ability to protect sensitive government information and comply with applicable federal security, privacy, records-management, and acceptable-use requirements.
· Availability during regular business hours and, when needed, for scheduled releases, maintenance activities, or urgent production support.
