The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented Research Associate II - Operational Knowledge Management to design, implement, and execute activities and tasks in support of operationally-focused knowledge management (KM) support to the National Institute for Defense Health Cooperation (NIDHC). This position will coordinate KM activities across NIDHC's Planning and Partnership (P&P) Directorate with key stakeholders, and contribute to the development and dissemination of deliverables and organizational knowledge assets. The Research Associate II will also conduct data entry, management, and analysis tasks in furtherance of specific KM projects and deliverables.
The Research Associate II works in direct support of the NIDHC Planning & Partnerships (P&P) Directorate, reporting to the P&P Program Manager. As a force multiplier, this role is pivotal in advancing the NIDHC's mission to bridge military, civilian, and academic health ecosystems by operationalizing a robust Knowledge Management (KM) framework. The Associate will envision, build, improve and systematize the tools and processes required to help Operational GHE stakeholders meet their critical knowledge requirements. By fostering systems for continuous learning, process improvement, and the sharing of best practices, the Associate enables the Directorate to provide responsive operational reach-back support, track project milestones, and ensure the delivery of technical subject matter expertise across Combatant Command (CCMD) and interagency partnerships, ultimately optimizing mission accomplishment.
Established in 2025, the National Institute for Defense Health Cooperation (NIDHC) integrates the essential functions of the National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health (NCDMPH), the Center for Global Health Engagement (CGHE), and the Defense Institute for Medical Operations (DIMO). As a federal organization and academic center based at the Uniformed Services University, NIDHC functions as a central hub within the Military-Civilian Health Ecosystem, connecting military, civilian, and academic partners to advance health operational readiness for crisis and conflict. NIDHC provides the leadership, structure, and accountability necessary to integrate efforts across the DoD, federal interagency, and international partners, leveraging national expertise to strengthen global health security and interoperability through robust training, planning, research, and analysis.

We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
- Conduct data entry, processing and verification across multiple data platforms.
- Perform recurring project monitoring, including metrics tracking.
- Maintain and update existing documentation (i.e. Standard Operating Procedures) on platform full cycle data management.
- Explore the use of generative AI (GenAI) for process improvement, increased efficiencies, and platform innovation.
- Support P&P and Operational KM related research efforts by performing both quantitative and qualitative data analyses and assisting in abstract and manuscript development.
- Maintain and update project-related communications materials.
- Coordinate recurring external stakeholder engagement efforts.
- Act as the project liaison to the P&P Directorate.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in data analysis and management, project management, project administration, or related fields.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of and experience working with statistical packages (e.g. R, Python, SPSS, or SAS), data analysis methodologies, and full lifecycle data management.
- Basic understanding of and experience with KM principles, systems design, and information architecture.
- Proven ability to assist in and contribute to technical writing.
- Familiarity with or curiosity about GenAI tools and prompt engineering for process automation and efficiency.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines and manage stakeholder engagements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act as a cross-functional liaison.
- Well-developed skills in planning, prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
- Ability to interpret a wide range of information and use their findings to suggest improvements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work as a team toward achieving goals.
- Well-developed listening and problem-solving skills to understand the issues and propose appropriate solutions.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed, potentially austere and/or low-resource areas.
- This position may require U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret security clearance.
- Experience with global health engagement preferred.
- Ability to work from multiple locations around the National Capital Region.

Benefits & conditions
- The annual salary range for this position is $61,000 - $80,000.
