Job description

A beloved Chicago-staple and nationally recognized hospitality brand with hundreds of locations across the country is modernizing its data and analytics platform to Microsoft Fabric and they need an experienced Project Manager to help drive it forward on a part-time basis. This is a hybrid contract role supporting a major data warehouse modernization effort. The role involves managing a blended team of onsite and offsite developers, including resources provided through a third-party data management partner.

Onsite presence is required three days per week (20 to 30 hour work weeks) to work directly with business stakeholders during a highly visible implementation.

Why this role stands out:

  • Meaningful scope and executive visibility without a full-time commitment.
  • The initiative is built on Microsoft Fabric, one of the most in-demand platforms in the data space right now. Whether you're already Fabric-fluent or looking to add it to your toolkit, you'll be in the middle of a real implementation.
  • You'll be supporting a household-name hospitality company (confidential search) where the data directly touches sales, inventory, and labor decisions across hundreds of locations.
  • This team needs an extra set of experienced hands. Someone who can step in, bring order, and keep a blended onsite/offshore development team moving.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Own project management for a data warehouse and analytics platform initiative spanning sales, inventory, and labor data
  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the development team, translating business needs into clear technical requirements
  • Lead requirements gathering sessions with business partners and executive stakeholders
  • Run daily standups and manage the development backlog using Agile tools
  • Help map current-state data structures and guide the transformation into refined, analytics-ready layers
  • Translate executive-level KPI and reporting needs into actionable deliverables
  • Present status, roadmap, and risk updates to senior leadership
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with finance, operations, and procurement as new capabilities roll out
  • Support the long-term vision of department-specific analytics and AI-driven reporting

Requirements

  • 5+ years managing enterprise data or business intelligence projects, ideally in a data warehouse or platform modernization context
  • Strong understanding of data warehouse concepts including data layering, transformation, and structuring unstructured data for reporting
  • Proven experience working directly with business users and non-technical stakeholders, not just development teams
  • Excellent requirements gathering, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills
  • Experience with modern cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Snowflake, or similar
  • Familiarity with Agile project tools such as Asana or Jira
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment with executive exposure

Bonus points: Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience is strongly preferred but not required. A genuine curiosity and a strong data platform foundation go a long way here.
