Job description
The Design Release Engineer (DRE) for Customer Controls responsible for leading design release for current and future switch assemblies. The engineer in this role will represent the engineering organization to internal program teams as well as external suppliers.
In this role you will develop engineering solutions to release a final design for production. In the role you will be responsible for a group of customer controls components engineering them for use by multiple vehicle programs, and also work with supplier resident engineers to resolve issues and release of parts. As the Design Release Engineer (DRE), you'll interact with various departments, supporting Manufacturing and Service Engineers, Product Engineering, Product Launch teams, as well as working with Quality engineers to investigate warranty related issues, and preparation of the owner's manual. Additionally, you would present design alternatives to management for decision. The role requires a proactive individual who will ensure project timing and part availability.
The role will include:
- Develop and design package concept.
- Initiate and conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
- Prepare and track Engineering Change Work Orders for release documentation and changes.
- Develop design alternatives and present them to management for decision.
- Develop and track validation test plans
- Manage change requests and Issue tracking.
- Coordinate design of component with vehicle changes.
- Initiate, analyze and revise design if test/ manufacturing/ field problems occur and implement problem resolution.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work within GM, suppliers, and with program teams
- Ability to prioritize and balance multiple activities
- Hands-on vehicle working experience
- Ability to self-motivate / self-direct
- Problem-solving proficiency
- Knowledge and experience with design release system and process, manufacturing process, and vehicle validation process.
