Job description
Quantum Leben is not a typical insurer. We're a Liechtenstein-based life and income insurer. What sets us apart is how we operate: lean, fast, and entirely partner-driven - working with around 45 brokers and MGAs across Europe. No committees for every decision. Just a small, sharp team building something with real ambition.
We're at an inflection point. The foundation is in place, the partner network is growing and now it's time to build the infrastructure that enhances control and lets us scale properly. That starts with data.
The Mission
This isn't a role where you maintain what someone else built. This is the role where you build it.
As our first Data Engineer, you'll lay the data foundation for a growing pan-European insurer - from architecture to pipelines to the data products that actually drive decisions. You'll work directly with the business, translating sometimes messy operational reality into clean, reliable, model-ready data. Your role is the data engineer, but allows for input into areas like architecture, stewardship.
The goal is a single source of truth: one Azure Databricks lakehouse that integrates data from all our partners, powers underwriting and claims and gives us the visibility to run a smarter business. You'll help define how that gets built - and you'll see it go live.
What will you do?
- Help architect and implement a cloud-native (Azure) Databricks lakehouse from scratch
- Design and implement pipelines for data
- Help establish the scope of the use case pipeline
- Work closely with the external implementation consultant to define solution architecture and deliver against milestones
- Partner with the Data Steward to define ownership, classification and retention policies
- Enable the Data Analyst by delivering clean, structured, well-documented datasets
- Identify and reduce manual data processing across the business, You will join a small team and report directly to the COO. This is not a support role - it is a builder role. You will have real ownership and direct impact on a strategic programme.
The data platform programme is the top strategic priority for 2026-2027. You will initially have access to external consulting support for architecture guidance. There is an internal Data Steward for governance tasks, receipt of data and data quality checks, but you set the technical direction. There is also a data analyst as part of the team.
Quantum Leben operates in the Netherlands from our office in Eindhoven, with hybrid working arrangements. Total Quantum Leben is roughly 55 people.
