Job description

  • Design and maintain self-service tooling, templates, and scaffolding that enable engineers to provision and deploy serverless resources independently.
  • Own and evolve internal developer platform capabilities, including CI/CD pipeline templates, IaC modules, and reusable Lambda and Step Functions patterns.
  • Reduce cognitive overhead for engineers by abstracting platform complexity behind well-documented, opinionated interfaces.
  • Partner with engineering teams to gather feedback and continuously improve the developer experience.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and architectural decision records for the platform.
  • Define and promote engineering standards for serverless development, including naming conventions, logging, error handling, and observability.
  • Lead or contribute to internal tech talks, workshops, and onboarding programmes to upskill engineers on platform capabilities.
  • Act as a trusted technical partner to product and data engineering squads, embedding platform expertise into delivery teams as needed.
  • Define clear SLAs and SLOs for platform services and communicate them to consuming teams.
  • Triage and resolve platform-related blockers quickly, prioritising engineer unblocking over reactive maintenance work.
  • Ensure platform infrastructure follows security best practices, including least-privilege IAM, encryption, and secrets management.
  • Collaborate with security and compliance stakeholders to maintain audit readiness and address vulnerabilities promptly.
  • Embed security considerations into platform tooling so secure defaults are the easiest path for engineers.
  • Own and evolve IaC for platform infrastructure using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
  • Enforce GitOps and CI/CD best practices across platform delivery.
  • Champion progressive delivery practices across the platform.
  • Drive continuous improvement through platform reviews, blameless post-mortems, and iterative delivery.
  • Measure and report on engineering metrics to demonstrate and drive improvement.
  • Contribute to the broader engineering community through knowledge sharing and cross-team collaboration.

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on experience with AWS serverless and cloud architecture, with the ability to design for cost, latency, and failure modes.
  • Strong Python skills for production-quality, testable, and maintainable code; we also value Java familiarity for legacy pipeline work and cross-language debugging.
  • Proficiency in Terraform and experience building reusable Infrastructure as Code modules in a GitOps model.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, with a developer platform mindset focused on reducing friction for engineers.
  • Comfort with CloudWatch and ideally a third-party observability tool, including practical knowledge of SLOs, error budgets, and actionable alerting.
  • Strong communication skills, including clear documentation, useful code review feedback, and the ability to explain complex infrastructure decisions.
  • Practical knowledge of security best practices, including least-privilege IAM, secrets management, and secure-by-default platform design.
  • Knowledge of AWS IAM, VPC, and security patterns.
  • Familiarity with architectural documentation and engineering standards for serverless development.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with product and data engineering teams and support cross-team delivery.
  • Experience with progressive delivery practices such as feature flags, canary deployments, and rollback mechanisms.
