Job description

  • Partner closely with product engineering squads in an embedded model
  • Own production reliability for high-SLA and complex customer environments
  • Design and implement automation to scale our reliability practices
  • Ensure our customers meet our SLO targets
  • Define and evolve per-tenant SLOs and reliability models
  • Proactively reduce SLO burn to prevent repeat incidents
  • Serve as a primary escalation point and participate in on-call for relevant incidents
  • Lead customer-impacting incident response and post-incident reviews
  • Contribute to design docs and code reviews
  • Influence feature design to ensure production scalability and operability
  • Build automation to eliminate toil where needed
  • Improve alert quality and reduce noisy escalations
  • Hold regular 1:1s with your manager and colleagues
  • Review and create SLOs and investigate ways to reduce budget burn, including improvements to monitoring, automation, self-healing, and auto-scaling
  • Improve observability of customers within their environments
  • Design and implement solutions that ensure reliability and scalability as demands increase
  • Develop fault-tolerant design patterns across the service lifecycle
  • Collaborate with engineering leaders to define and influence product strategy, roadmaps, and technical designs
  • Participate in PR reviews and collaborate on design docs
  • Teach others about Site Reliability Engineering and share best practices early in feature development
  • Participate in incident response through investigation, resolution, PIRs, and customer communication when needed

Requirements

  • 8+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years in SRE, CRE, or production engineering
  • Strong Kubernetes experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure, with familiarity in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Helm, Terraform, and Jsonnet
  • Strong technical leadership experience, including leading projects, mentoring engineers, and acting as a force multiplier
  • Experience operating multi-tenant systems in production
  • Strong experience designing and implementing SLOs
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as Go, Python, or Java
  • Experience with Linux operating system internals, plus knowledge of networking, cloud storage, and scaling
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience participating in blame-free incident response, following up on action items, and writing high-quality post-incident reviews
  • Ability to reason about performance, scaling, and failure modes
  • Comfort working in an engineering team that values autonomy and self-direction
  • Ability to partner deeply with product engineering teams
  • Intellectual curiosity, transparency, a bias toward action, and kindness
