Job description

  • We conduct and automate data collection and processing scripts.
  • We create and maintain optimal, performant data pipeline architectures, both internally and externally.
  • We propose improvements to infrastructure, schemas, platforms, toolchains, and configurations.
  • We ensure findability, availability, scalability, reproducibility, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability of all data products.
  • We assist in the automation, provision, and management of development environments, source code, build tools, pipelines, and deployments.
  • We support ad-hoc data processing during our emergency responses in collaboration with our GIS Coordinator and volunteer team.
  • We support data-related project scoping in collaboration with our Head of Data & GIS.
  • We support internal systems maintenance and administration in collaboration with our IT Support Engineer.
  • We engage with our volunteer team on data-related projects.
  • We support the development of Data Engineer and Data Science training materials in collaboration with our Head of Capacity Building and volunteer team.
  • We work with external partners such as UN agencies, NGOs, and disaster management agencies on data processing and automation projects.

Requirements

  • We are looking for someone with a degree or equivalent experience in Data Science, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Development, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • We require at least one year of professional experience in data engineering.
  • We need proficiency in Python and Jupyter Notebooks.
  • We require experience working with geospatial data, including raster and vector data.
  • We need experience with databases, including NoSQL, SQL, Graph DBs, and RDB principles.
  • We require data pipeline design skills.
  • We need knowledge of cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
  • We require experience and understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
  • We need collaborative code management experience using Git and GitHub.
  • We value the ability to work in a team, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and remain adaptable, resilient, self-motivated, and organised.
  • Desirable experience includes QGIS or ArcGIS, systems engineering, Agile software development, containerisation such as Docker or Kubernetes, shell scripting, BI, data science interests such as ML, DL, AI, or statistics, project management, and humanitarian experience or knowledge.

This is a remote role based in the United Kingdom, with some travel for weekend training events and team days near our Oxfordshire office. We offer a salary of £36,000 to £40,000 per annum, a full-time 12-month contract with possible extension, 30 days holiday pro rata, a workplace pension, and paid training opportunities.
