Job description

  • We design software solutions that solve business-critical challenges and support our technical roadmap.
  • We use IBM iSeries (AS/400) to design high-quality, scalable, secure, and resilient software solutions for our clients.
  • We articulate effective design capability to clients and internal teams.
  • We sit on the internal Design Authority Board and review proposed designs for compliance with our technical strategy.
  • We play a key role in our modernisation efforts by shaping solutions with our IT industry knowledge.
  • We communicate design decisions, plans, goals, and strategies to project teams and senior leadership.
  • We research, investigate, propose, and introduce new technologies and third-party applications to keep us relevant in the market.
  • We support the Solution Architect by designing components of the High Level Solution.
  • We articulate solution designs to software engineering teams to enable low-level design.
  • We act as the technical design authority in project delivery, working with technical leads to ensure solution requirements are implemented in full.
  • We provide product, system, and industry guidance to the project team.
  • We support the change project governance process, Design Solution Owner Group, and Change SDLC.
  • We work closely with Sales, Bid, and Commercial teams to provide product and technical knowledge support to the bid process.
  • We support the Solution Architect on all allocated bid opportunities.
  • We own engagement across the business and articulate the proposed solution design.
  • We provide design estimates for new functional components.

Requirements

  • We are looking for an experienced Analyst/Programmer (Design Consultant) with strong technical, industry, and business acumen.
  • We require subject matter expertise in Financial Services, ideally Lending and/or Investments.
  • We require client-facing experience.
  • We require presentation experience.
  • We require experience with Security by Design.
  • We require experience designing to standards and using industry patterns.
  • We require AS400 / iSeries experience.
  • Nice to have: cloud deployment experience (AWS/Azure).
  • Nice to have: IBM middleware experience, such as IBMi.
  • Nice to have: API integration experience, such as Mulesoft.
  • Nice to have: experience with project delivery methodologies such as Waterfall or Agile.
  • Nice to have: experience with tooling such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Nice to have: SQL scripting or programming experience.

This Design Consultant role is primarily remote, with occasional attendance required at our Cardiff or Newport office.
