Job description

We are recruiting for a Senior Technology Specialist to join our Systems and Technology Team. This role exists to strengthen Armac Martin's internal technology capability across data engineering, web platforms, systems integration, automation, and AI-enabled workflows. The role is a hands-on technical specialist role focused on building, improving, troubleshooting, and documenting business-critical platforms so they remain reliable, scalable, secure, and aligned to operational priorities while reducing manual work and improving decision-making across the business., * Triage and resolve production issues in DAGs, integrations, APIs, databases, and the internal web platform without requiring heavy escalation.

  • Review and improve existing Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, SQL, BigQuery, MongoDB, and GCP implementations with a bias toward maintainability and operational resilience.
  • Support daily technical delivery by resolving blockers in code, data, environments, integrations, deployment pipelines, and production support workflows.
  • Translate business requests into clear technical options, sequencing, trade-offs, risks, and implementation plans for review with senior stakeholders.
  • Operate at a standard where high-priority incidents are quickly understood, risks are communicated clearly, and changes are tested before release.

Success Outcomes

  • First 90 Days:

All of the above plus:

  • Operational support and prioritised improvement of core data pipelines, DAGs, SQL/BigQuery models, ERP integrations, APIs, and internal web platform services.
  • Technical contribution to engineering standards, including code review participation, test expectations, release readiness checks, and maintainable implementation patterns.
  • Technical analysis of stakeholder requests, converting business requirements into scoped technical work with clear acceptance criteria, constraints, and implementation notes.
  • Reliability practices for production systems, including deployment checks, rollback thinking, monitoring, incident triage, and root-cause follow-up.
  • 12 Months:

All of the above plus:

  • Material reduction in manual operational effort through automation and integration, sustaining or exceeding the current direction of removed manual work where suitable opportunities exist.
  • Improved reliability for core internal platforms and data workflows, with production incidents reduced, faster recovery, and uptime maintained at business-acceptable levels.
  • Better reporting and analytics capability through robust data models, BigQuery workflows, warehouse governance, and ERP offloading where appropriate.
  • Higher delivery throughput and predictability through improved CI/CD, testing, code review participation, documentation, and release support.
  • Commercially useful AI and automation use cases delivered with clear validation, exception handling, and measurablebenefit., * Avoids accountability for live systems or repeatedly blames legacy complexity rather than improving it.
  • Cannot explain technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Introduces unnecessary architectural complexity or tools without clear business benefit.
  • Ships changes without adequate testing, peer review, monitoring, or rollback consideration.
  • Fails to assess technical priority and risk, causing work to become reactive, overcommitted, or unclear on what matters most.
  • Uses AI, automation, or data outputs without appropriate validation and safeguards.

Requirements

Required

  • Hands-on technical credibility across Python, SQL, APIs, data pipelines, cloud deployment, and full-stack web systems.
  • Able to work as a senior individual contributor while supporting technical quality and sharing expertise with other engineers when required.
  • Understands production support, testing, CI/CD, observability, rollback thinking, and release discipline.
  • Strong SQL and data modelling capability, particularly where operational systems and ERP data are involved.
  • Can work directly with senior stakeholders and translate business goals into deliverable technical work.
  • Treats reliability, security, maintainability, and data quality as core responsibilities rather than optional extras.

Desired

  • Have worked with a SAP ERP system.
  • Understand repository structures, deployment conventions, DAG naming, monitoring patterns, and support runbooks.
  • Excellent ability to communicate and manage supplier relationships and internal stakeholders.
  • Understand cost structures, operational KPIs, and department-specific metrics.
