Job description

As a Data Cabling Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, termination, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and support of structured cabling systems across a wide range of commercial, industrial, and smart building environments. Working on multiple client sites, you will deliver high-quality copper and fibre optic cabling infrastructure that forms the backbone of modern network and building technologies.

The role requires a strong technical understanding of structured cabling standards, network infrastructure, and installation best practices. You will be expected to work independently or as part of a project team to ensure all installations are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will also contribute to the successful delivery of projects by maintaining excellent customer relationships, complying with all health and safety requirements, and ensuring all work meets client specifications and industry standards., * Install, terminate, label, test, and commission structured copper and fibre optic cabling systems in accordance with industry standards and client specifications.

  • Carry out the installation of Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, Cat7, and fibre optic cabling, including single-mode and multi-mode fibre systems.
  • Install containment systems including cable tray, basket, trunking, conduit, ducting, and underfloor or overhead cable management systems.
  • Install and terminate patch panels, data outlets, fibre enclosures, cabinets, and network racks to a high professional standard.
  • Perform certification testing using approved test equipment and produce accurate test results and documentation for project handover.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and rectify faults on existing copper and fibre network infrastructure.
  • Assist with network infrastructure upgrades, relocations, and maintenance activities while minimising disruption to client operations.
  • Interpret technical drawings, floor plans, schematics, and installation specifications to ensure accurate delivery of works.
  • Ensure all installations comply with current industry standards, manufacturer guidelines, and company quality procedures.
  • Maintain accurate installation records, as-built drawings, cable schedules, and testing documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, and other engineering disciplines to deliver projects efficiently.
  • Provide professional customer service while representing the company on client sites and responding to technical queries where appropriate.
  • Identify potential project risks or installation issues and communicate them promptly to management.
  • Maintain company tools, testing equipment, vehicles, and materials in good working order.

  • Follow all site-specific rules, permit-to-work systems, and client safety procedures.
  • Correctly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
  • Report hazards, near misses, accidents, and unsafe conditions in accordance with company procedures.
  • Ensure all work complies with current electrical and structured cabling regulations, industry standards, and best practice.

Quality Standards

  • Deliver installations that meet or exceed client expectations and industry best practice.
  • Ensure all cabling is installed neatly, securely supported, correctly labelled, and fully tested prior to handover.
  • Complete projects within agreed timescales while maintaining high levels of workmanship and attention to detail.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve installation methods and project efficiency., The Data Cabling Engineer will demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a proactive approach to work. They will communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, take ownership of their responsibilities, and consistently deliver high-quality installations while maintaining the company's reputation for technical excellence and customer satisfaction.
