Job description
- We lead Scrum ceremonies and ensure effective sprint planning, execution, and delivery outcomes.
- We act as a technical authority within the squad and work closely with Technical Delivery Managers, Product Owners, Architects, Developers, and Testers.
- We review and challenge Java and Spring Boot microservices code to ensure clean code, performance, scalability, and best practice.
- We influence software engineering decisions around Java frameworks, design patterns, and implementation approaches.
- We drive code quality improvements through reviews, static analysis, and test coverage.
- We optimise CI/CD pipelines for Java-based services, including build, test, and deployment automation.
- We track delivery using DORA metrics and software engineering KPIs.
- We monitor pipeline performance, defect rates, and service reliability.
- We support secure, high-quality delivery of application and DevOps services across AWS platforms.

Requirements
- We require active SC Security Clearance and NPPV3 Security Clearance.
- We require strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and AWS Cloud environments.
- We require experience leading Agile delivery in a technical Scrum Master role.
- We require the ability to challenge code and influence engineering decisions.
- We require experience with CI/CD pipeline optimisation and DevOps best practices.
- We require knowledge of RESTful APIs, Docker, ECS, EKS, and AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- We require experience with Java application build, test, and deployment automation using tools such as Jenkins and GitHub.
- Scrum, AWS, or SAFe certifications such as CSM or PSM are advantageous.
Benefits & conditions
We are a leading global IT transformation business specialising in delivering large-scale Government and Public Sector projects. This is a 6-month contract based in Birmingham on a hybrid working pattern, with 3 days per week remote, 2 days per week in our Birmingham office, and occasional travel to our Croydon office. The role offers up to £450-475/day outside IR35 and is due to start ASAP in July 2026. This is a highly technical Scrum Master position that combines Agile leadership with deep Java engineering expertise, giving us the opportunity to influence delivery, engineering quality, and DevOps excellence across AWS cloud environments.
