Job description

  • Manage network incidents and troubleshoot issues with customers, colleagues and third parties
  • Monitor network health and performance, proactively identify issues and improvements which ensure the reliability and availability of the network
  • Configure, deploy and manage network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls and wireless access points
  • Support network projects
  • Attend sites across the County to support the resolution of incidents and complete project work, such as network installation
  • Work within existing IT service management processes for incident, change and problem management, The role is a part of Core Technology Services within the IT Service. The team brings together technical specialists across multiple disciplines, including networks, servers, client devices, general infrastructure, Microsoft 365, unified communications, data centre services, cloud services and related technology platforms. The team works closely with service owners, project managers, suppliers and operational support teams to deliver stable services and support business change.

The team work in a Hybrid manner, with a minimum of 2 days in the office. Although there would be requirement of increased office working for the initial period, to support training and role familiarisation., Step 3 - Upload a supporting statement answering the following questions below (no more than 400 words per question).   • Describe a situation where you had to investigate intermittent network issues that were difficult to reproduce. What troubleshooting methodology did you follow, and how did you reach a resolution?
  • Describe a time when you implemented a network change involving routers, switches, firewalls, or access points within a controlled change process. How did you plan, test, document, and communicate the change?
  • Tell us about a time when you documented a network configuration, support procedure, or technical solution for others to use. How did you ensure the documentation was accurate, practical, and helpful to the wider team?

Requirements

  • experience of supporting and troubleshooting enterprise networking products (wired and wireless) - Cisco Catalyst and Meraki experience preferable
  • hands-on experience with managing firewalls such as creating security policies and analysing traffic flows - Cisco, Palo Alto and FortiGate experience preferable
  • strong knowledge of fundamental network principles and protocols - TCP/IP, IP Addressing, Spanning-tree, wireless
  • knowledge of network security principles and best practices - such as VPN, NAT, Inspection, Certificates
  • understanding of routing protocols
  • experience performing software upgrades on network equipment
  • experience with implementing and supporting network hardware
  • experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools
  • familiarity with cloud networking
  • strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills in complex environments
  • knowledge of cabling technologies - copper and fibre
  • knowledge of WAN circuit technologies
