About the Role
This is a hands-on, waterfront engineering role embedded directly in the ship pre-commissioning process. You'll serve as a critical bridge between the shipbuilder, the Navy's program offices, and the crew. Ensuring that the ship and her sailors are ready for fleet operations from day one.
As a PRECOM Support Engineer , you'll provide engineering and administrative support to the Prospective Commanding Officer (PCO), Executive Officer (XO), and Department Heads as their ship transitions from construction to an operational warship. You'll be part of an integrated support team alongside government and Noblis MSD personnel, working closely with PEO Ships, SUPSHIP Gulf Coast, and the ship's crew through every phase of fleet introduction.
What You'll Do
-
Fleet Requirements Coordination - Work across SUPSHIP, Ship's Force, PEO Ships, and Type Commanders to identify and resolve fleet requirements not captured in the ship's build contract. This requires deep familiarity with the building contract, ship specifications, and current fleet standards.
-
Training & Certification Support - Coordinate Limited Team Trainers, crew certifications, and Afloat Training Group (ATG) and Squadron visits. Support the crew through waterfront training requirements before and after Crew Move Aboard (CMA).
-
Ship Checks & Assessments - Conduct ship checks as requested by Ship's Force. Assist with Light Off Assessment (LOA) preparation to include hot and cold checks.
-
Administrative Program Support - Help Ship's Force with administrative program reviews and implementation per ATG Afloat Self Assessment check sheets.
-
Cross-Departmental Flexibility - While the focus is engineering, you may be called upon to support any ship department as needs arise during the pre-commissioning process.
You'll be on the waterfront daily, working alongside the crew and shipbuilders in a fast-paced environment where the goal is clear: get the ship and her crew certified and ready to sail.
