- Maintains the VCIN Units organized file system for all VCIN/NCIC entries. Enters information, property and people into the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN).
- Conducts problem resolution regarding VCIN issues/problems. Works with Courts in regards to service and/or entry of protective orders.
- Cross-checks and validations on departmental VCIN entries. Accurately records, notifies, corrects and advises on all VCIN related problems discovered.
- Performs routine office tasks, such as typing, filing, faxing, telephoning, scanning records and copying. Must have the ability to work alone.
- Monitors and operates a portable radio to communicate with officers and sheriff's deputies in the completion of wanted persons/item confirmation along with entries of same, printing of criminal history and driver transcript information and transmits relevant information to field units. Operator will follow Federal Communications Commission's laws and department requirements.
Performs other related duties as assigned., Special Requirement-This job classification provides service to the community on an 18-hour basis during various hours of the day and night. In order to accommodate this 18-hour service, this job class is required to work on rotating schedules, which includes working weekends and holidays., In accordance with City policy, this position is deemed safety-sensitive. As such, applicants for this position are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing after receiving a conditional offer of employment and may also be subject to random testing. This drug test includes testing for marijuana. Possession of a medical marijuana card will not excuse an applicant from the testing process; however, a test will not be considered positive for marijuana if a valid medical marijuana certification is presented unless the position requires a commercial driver's license (CDL) or is a sworn law-enforcement officer/deputy.

Experience-In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses-Requires a Full Access level VCIN operator certification within 30 days of hire. Must be a United States citizen or a lawful resident for the past 10 consecutive years., Prior Law Enforcement experience; knowledge of VA State Codes, VCIN/NCIC experience with a minimum of Basic level certification. Experience with outlook and Microsoft software.
