Job description
The IT Specialist is responsible for installing and maintaining computer systems, networks, and software; providing technical support to users; troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues; and ensuring the security and integrity of an organization's IT infrastructure. Responsibilities often involve network management, system updates, data backups, user support, and implementing new technologies to improve efficiency and security., * Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Provide technical assistance to employees or customers and resolve issues with hardware, software, and network systems.
- System Maintenance: Install, configure, and update computer hardware, software, and network components.
- Network Management: Monitor, maintain, and manage local and wide-area networks (LANs/WANs), cloud networks, and servers to ensure optimal performance.
- Security: Implement security measures, manage user access, and ensure the privacy and security of networks and data.
- Hardware & Software Management: Manage IT assets, install software, and perform necessary maintenance to keep systems running smoothly.
- User Assistance & Training: Onboard new users, manage their access rights, and sometimes provide end-user training on new technology.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation for system configurations and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the governing body
Requirements
- A high school diploma at a minimum, though a 2-year associate's degree or a 4-year bachelor's degree in fields like computer science or information technology is often preferred.
- Some senior roles may also require a master's degree. Additionally, practical experience, internships, and relevant professional certifications are highly valued and can enhance career prospects., * Expertise in hardware, software, operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), and network infrastructure.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve technical issues effectively.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users and document solutions.
- Good communication and people skills to work with frustrated users and provide support.
- Skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and ensure efficient IT operations.
- Familiarity with best practices for IT security, system maintenance, and disaster recovery.
