Job description

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will ensure our space systems satisfy the needs of our critical partners, and crafts the larger vehicle and ground data architectures to enable us to successfully implement the required capabilities for our mission. As the Senior Cyber Systems Engineer, you will provide the technical security requirements connecting data from our flight software to the systems functions to our ground operations and test engineering. You will help ensure the program requirements, operational descriptions, and system designs have been shaped so that the overall cyber system security posture meets our customers' needs. You will be responsible for interpreting functional description documents, and existing command and telemetry definitions to create an overall cyber security architecture for the Blue Ring satellites. You will help guide the data format, streams, and storage development and testing, resulting in the hardening of a complete spacecraft solution. To accomplish this, you will work closely with our spacecraft development engineers, spaceflight operations organization, and test engineering to ensure a seamless implementation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and configuring network topologies and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, routing protocols)
  • Use outcome-driven metrics and key performance indicators to measure cybersecurity effectiveness and drive improvements and efficiencies.
  • Assess compliance using monitoring technologies and regular audits and reviews, identifying areas of non-compliance and recommending corrective actions.
  • Documenting space vehicle network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and supporting evidence of compliance.
  • Support policies and procedures maintenance aligned with in-scope security frameworks, regulations, and internal standards to manage identified risks effectively.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities across the in-space systems mission area, analyzing their impact and likelihood of occurrence., Applicants for employment at Blue Origin must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.
  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or certification in cybersecurity, or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience with space systems cyber standards including CNSSP-12, NCSDMO-8, CNSSI-4003, CNSSI-4005 and NIST 800-53
  • 10+ years experience in Space systems command and data handling systems
  • Knowledgeable of cyber security strategies and practices within the National Security Space industry
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance, * Experience with National Security Space missions and USG acquisition offices and authorities
  • Experience with AI and modern cyber security implementations
  • Experience with implementing security products and designs in OSI layers 2 & 3
