Job description
An employer in the Dayton, OH area is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a direct hire opportunity. This individual will serve as a technical leader responsible for maintaining and enhancing a command-and-control software environment supporting Army and intelligence community missions. The ideal candidate will bring strong software architecture and framework design experience, with deep expertise in modern C++ development. They will work closely with an established development team that is actively building on the environment but lacks senior-level architectural guidance. This person will help drive design decisions, establish development standards, and guide the long-term technical direction of the platform. The role includes hands-on coding, architectural oversight, mentoring junior developers, and eventually leading a small team. Candidates should be comfortable working through complex software engineering challenges, understanding how large-scale frameworks and engines operate
Requirements
and contributing to a highly specialized mission environment. Strong leadership, communication, and technical problem-solving skills are critical for success., Active Secret Clearance (must be comfortable/willing to obtain TS/SCI) 5+ years of modern C++ development Strong knowledge of understanding how modern C++ frameworks, engines, and architectures work Strong knowledge of modern C++ standards and design patterns Proficiency with C++ version 20 or newer Bachelor's Degree in STEM Experience/comfortable leading and mentoring junior developers Leading architectural design and strong communication skills
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Modeling & Simulation experience Experience with command-and-control (C2) systems Experience with simulation frameworks, or simulation engines Experience with data architecture/modeling Python, Rust, or other modern programming languages Prior leadership or team lead experience Experience supporting intelligence or defense customers Experience working with radar, sensors, aircraft, or large-scale simulation models
